5th Annual Sack Lunch Chuck Wagon
January 12th – Feb 3rd, 2018
Every year, the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo (FWSSR) hires
day laborers to work 12-hour shifts, 7 days per week. Each of the
day laborers makes minimum wage. Many of the day laborers are
homeless. Over the years, a good number of formerly homeless hires end up
with full-time jobs with the City of Fort Worth because of the good work
they did during the FWSSR.
Here’s the rub: eating at the stock show can be expensive and options
within walking distance are slim. SHCC is taking part once again by
providing 225 sack lunches of non-perishable food items that were
put together during December 31st 5th Sunday service day and will be
delivered for one of the Stock Show days of the Fort Worth Stock Show and
Rodeo, because that is how many day laborers work each day.
By the end of the 2018 FWSSR, TCT will have provided a total of 6,000 sack
lunches for homeless day laborers, enabling them to have a good meal.
