Rock out at the best concerts in town 

The festive party season may have ended but the city still offers many concerts to rock out on the cold January nights. 

Akvárium (p. 3A), which is a favorite meeting point in the city, is located on Erzsébet Square. The steps leading to the 

club are usually packed with people, while the actual concert hall is under a man-made lake. January highlights include 

the gig of Hungarian alternative rock band, Kiscsillag on the 19th, Inward, Hanzo & Randie from Italy playing bass music and 

metal on the 20th, while the Extrawelt is spinning records on the same day. The A38 Ship (p.3A) was once a Ukrainian stonecarrier 

ship, but now is a hip concert venue. This month it hosts a number of concerts, including Hungarian ethno-beat band, 

Aurevoir on the 18th, local’s favorite jazz band, Budapest Bár on the 28th, and American rocker, Scott Kelly on the 30th. For 

smooth jazz harmonies, head towards the Opus Jazz Club (p. 4A): the András Dés Quartet takes the stage on the 2nd, the 

Miklós Lukács Cimbiózis 5tet on the 12th, and Philip Yaeger on the 20th. 

Bars 

AMIGO BAR A swinging joint dedicated to all 

things rockabilly and Elvis, this three-level bar 

has a grooving jukebox and features live local 

rock’n’roll bands on the weekends. Patrons
