walk along its acclaimed coastal path. Stretching 

for a whopping 186 miles from Amroth to St 

Dogmaels, the path leads visitors through a 

changing landscape of red sandstone bays, 

towering cliffs, quiet valleys and majestic 

headlands. Suitable for walkers of all abilities, 

numerous routes along the Pembrokeshire Coast 

Path can be reached by the coastal bus service.

With beaches in abundance and a wealth of watersports 

on offer, you really can make the most of the coast. Visit 

Barafundle Bay for classic coastal charm, go rockpooling 

at Marloes Sands and uncover adventure at Abereiddi and 

its Blue Lagoon. You can make a splash with our kayaking 

and coasteering sessions from Stackpole Quay and the 

North Pembrokeshire coast too. 

2. A GARDEN FOR ALL SEASONS 

For flower power, Colby Woodland Garden is a must-visit 

throughout the year. Admire seasonal blooms, go for a 

woodland wander, have fun with duck racing and pond 

dipping in the streams and take a break in the tea-room. 

3. HISTORY AND MYSTERY 

Step back in time at the Tudor Merchant’s House in Tenby 

and see what life was like in the 1500s. Uncover the 

historic wall paintings; our centuries-old artwork that’s 

recently undergone vital conservation work. 

4. FARM LIFE 

For a glimpse into rural life, head to the Southwood Estate, 

our home farm for North Pembrokeshire. Follow the 

walking trails around the estate, visit the shearing shed for 

information and maybe even spot our herd of Welsh Black 

Cattle or Welsh Mountain Ponies. 

5. SEAL PUP SPECTACULAR 

Come and meet our resident wildlife – autumn is a real wow 

as we welcome in seal pup season! Head to the Marloes 

Peninsula on a guided ranger walk to see the Atlantic grey 

seals and their pups. Have those binoculars ready… 

6. PLACES TO STAY 

Sleep easy under the stars at Gupton Farm, our brand new

life 

Visitors of all varieties are drawn to Pembrokeshire’s magnificent coastline. Nutrient-rich 

waters and a favourable landscape provide a perfect habitat for resident and visiting birds, 

such as gannets, guillemots, Manx shearwaters, razorbills and puffins, while glimpses of 

grey seals, basking sharks, dolphins, porpoises and even whales are offered through a 

number of wildlife sight-seeing boat trips. Other increasingly popular water activities to 

enjoy include surfing, stand-up paddle boarding and coasteering, and for the ultimate 

sea-based adventure, board a cruise or sea safari for a round- island boat trip or trips that 

land on the islands of Skomer, Ramsey and Caldey.

Sea 

Natural events, weather, tides, the changing 

seasons and human impact all play a part in 

altering the Pembrokeshire coastline. Some 

change is gradual, while other changes can 

be noticed almost immediately.

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is tracking 

these changes with its interactive Changing Coasts 

map and you can get involved. All along the coast 

you will find fixed point photography posts. These can 

be located by clicking on the camera icons that show 

up on the map, which will give you information about 

each point. 

Each location has been selected to track significant 

changes like dune and cliff erosion, flooding, 

changing vegetation and sand levels, and changes to 

pebble banks and stream courses. Share your photos 

taken at one of these posts with the park authority 

and they will add them to other shared images 

to create time-lapse films to document the 

changing coastline.

Beside the wonderful coastline, Pembrokeshire 

holds so much more for visitors. Explore the 

area on two wheels via the Pembrokeshire 

Trail, the southern section of the Lôn Teifi Trail 

or the 143-mile Pembrokeshire stretch of the 

Celtic Cycle Trail - just a taste of the superb 

cycle trails to enjoy. 

Discover the area’s bounteous history with a 

visit to the iconic Preseli Hills, which provided 

dolerite ‘bluestones’ for the second phase of 

Stonehenge’s construction, or walk the 

Golden Road that follows the main trade route 

between Britain and Ireland, dating back 

5,000 years to the Neolithic.

01 Oakwood is Wales’ only theme park with some world-class 

white-knuckle rides, but has plenty to amuse younger children 

too. The popular ‘After Dark’ evening openings throughout 

August will also be returning for 2018. 

02 The award-winning Folly Farm 

is more than just a farm. It’s a zoo, 

a vintage fun-fair, an adventure 

playground and it’s open all year.

rare black Rhinos have recently 

joined the star attractions of Lions,

Making the Grade 

A Guide to Quality Assurance 

All the accommodation featured in this publication has been 

independently assessed so you can make your choice in 

confidence, knowing that each place to stay has been given 

a rating according to the quality and facilities on offer. These 

ratings mean that you can be sure of standards and choose the 

accommodation that’s just right for you. 

Visit Wales/AA are the only checking agents in Wales, checking 

out over 5,000 places. 

What do our star ratings mean? 

Visit Wales STARS are evidence of quality. They range from one to five 

stars and are a reliable indication of the services and facilities you can 

expect in accommodation which includes hotels, guest houses, bed and 

breakfast, farm accommodation, hostel/hostel type accommodation, selfcatering 

cottages and apartments and caravan holiday home and touring/ 

camping parks. 

Alternative Accommodation such as yurts, tipis and tree houses are also 

checked to ensure that they meet minimum standards. 

Cleanliness is the most crucial element of any assessment and 

minimum standards, particularly at the higher star ratings reflect 

consumer expectations. 

All accommodation grades are based on a set of common quality 

standards agreed by Visit Wales, Visit England, Visit Scotland, Tourism 

Northern Ireland and the AA. 

Does a lower star rating equal 

less quality? 

Many lower star rated accommodations may still offer high quality 

but do not meet all of the facility and service expectations for the 

higher star ratings. Is it particularly important not to compare Guest 

Accommodation ratings against Hotel ratings as different criteria 

are used when assessing. The advice is to always check with an 

establishment before booking to check that the accommodation offers 

the services and facilities that meet your needs – they will 

only be too pleased to help. 

Also look out for that extra-special property that has 

been awarded Visit Wales’ Gold Award, given for 

exceptional standards of hospitality, comfort and food 

in serviced accommodation. 

Occasionally, it has not been possible to visit 

the accommodation prior to publication. In 

these instances, the property is marked as 

‘Awaiting Grading’.Some accommodation operators 

have chosen not to be star rated, but they have 

been checked out to ensure that they provide an 

acceptable level of services and facilities appropriate 

to their type of business. They are identified as 

either ‘Verified’ or ‘Listed’. 

Visitor Attractions 

Look out for the Visit Wales Quality marque. This 

only gets awarded to attractions that have been 

independently assessed against the national 

standards of the Visitor Attraction Quality 

Assurance Scheme to ensure that all areas 

important to your visit are of the best standard. 

Accommodating visitors 

with disabilities 

All Visit Wales graded properties have an Access Statement. 

This statement tells visitors in a clear, accurate and honest 

way how the property can meet their particular needs. Three 

symbols have been introduced to help visitors with physical 

impairments find the Access Statements of most relevance to 

them. Accommodation providers have selected the one symbol 

which best describes the improvements that they have made to 

their properties.
