The benefits are amazing!
If there was ever a good time to get your child into
the sport of tennis, this would be the perfect time
to do so.
There are so many scientific studies out there,
about all the physical and psychological health
benefits, associated with children playing the sport
of tennis; that it’s a win - win situation for both
parent and child.
As we begin this new year making resolutions,
playing tennis should be high on the list of priorities,
that you should definitely begin to do now,
today. The upside is tremendous, the benefits are
amazing.
How B
do you rea
What are you willing to do in order to get
where you want to go? It takes a lot to accomplish
your dreams and desires. There are
a lot of junior tennis players saying the same
things everyday, that they want it really really
bad.
This takes more than a
takes effort and disci
tion and sacrifice and a
gin the journey to get yo
like to go. And that’s jus
must continue it every d

lot of saying so. It
pline and determinalot
of hard work to beu
to where you would
t to start... then you
ay and don’t give up.
Along with that, you need to surround yourself
with a team of knowledgable people,
who will hold you accountable to the task at
hand. Then you MUST put away your ego, and
be willing to listen to what they are saying to
you, in order to get there.

Play
Every P
Don’t give up on any points just because you
are down (maybe 40-0) in a game. Run down
every ball and play every point as if it’s your
match point and you want to win. Just get the
ball back over the net and give your opponent
a chance to make an error. One point at
a time wins games, sets, and matches.

Remember you are going
be spending a great
deal of time with this person.
Apart from tennis instructions,
you will pick up
some of their personality
traits. Is this person one
who is constantly swearing,
angry, unkind and always
saying inappropiate
things, or is this person
kind considerate uplifting
and motivating. Is this the
type of person you look up
After tennis, you will have a life, and the kind
of person who influences you now, will shape
the kind of person you will become.

Cover Story
From America with love
es
nd princess!

I started playing tennis when I six
years old, at a charity tennis tournament
in Mobile, Alabama. I
have two older and two younger
siblings who also play tennis. My
parents say since the day they began
to train me, I took naturally to
the game, i.e. enjoying training, fitness,
diet, etc in order to emulate
my favorite player Serena Williams.
My entire family has played this
wonderful game for generations.
My father's, grandfather, brothers
and sisters. I love this game very
much and I have a lot to learn, but
I’m more than ready to soak it up.

Her parents say Liliana always
wanted to learn a one handed
backhand. She always thought,
"it looked beautiful". Her grandfather's,
uncle and father all hit
with a "one-hander" as well. She
won her first "10" and under tournament
recently in Fairhope, Alabama.
Along with her four other
siblings, they have all grown up
with one hand on the backhand
wing. Tomorrow is another day.
She has already inquired about
practice tomorrow....We shall
see what happens. In the meantime....Go
We interviewed Liliana about her life and tennis and
this is what she had to say.
Liliana: Riding my r
tricks with it.
was six. But when I turned eight, I actually
won my first tournament. Then I
was able to show my older brothers. That
made me want to practice more, so I can
be better than them.
Serveitup: If you co
The One
backhand
is not abou

Coaches may tell you that you need to hit a
two-handed backhand until you get stronger...
then you can hit the one hander. This is certainly
not true. It has nothing to do with strength, but
pure technique. The same way you learn to hit
a (one handed) forehand, you can also learn to
hit a one-handed backhand.
How to become a better
Athlete
under age 12
Young kids don’t really care how
competitive, and only care about
training fun, you become stronge
as you compete ag

At this age you are too young to start lifting heavy
so be very careful.
You should perform bodyweight exercises like
pushups, pull ups, and sit ups.
These exercises will help you build a strength
base, so your core becomes stronger when you
transition to lifting weights.
Do sets of 10 and gradually increase the amount
of reps and sets, as they become easier.
Make this into a contest or a game; so whoever
does the most pushups, gets rewarded.
Your training shoud always be competitive and
fun.
strong they are; they are very
winning. When you make your
r without even knowing you are;
ainst each other.
