Events like organising a sponsored run, garage sale, concert, etc. are only the beginning.
We’re open to all ideas. Also, through our existing network, we might even be able to
provide help with organizing something on a large scale.
ECO RUBBER:
Van eenmansaak na
nasionale besigheid
binne slegs een jaar!
Eco Rubber in Jeffreysbaai is
uiters bekend as gevolg van
hul wye en suksesvolle bemarkingsveldtogte
maar wat en
wie is Eco Rubber? En hoe het
dit gebeur dit dat ‘n eenmansaak
binne slegs ‘n jaar ‘n suksesvolle
nasionale besigheid
word?
Ons het by eienaar Neil van
Eco Rubber in St Francisstraat
gaan inloer.
Neil vertel dat Eco Rubber reeds van
2001 af bestaan nadat hul ‘n gaping
in die mark gesien het vir waterdigting
in die Oos-Kaap met ons uiterste
weersomstandighede.
Eco Rubber (die naam kom van
omgewing en beskerming van
die omgewing) is ‘n naatlose rubber-membraan
wat substrate
beskerm teen roes, waterskade en
chemiese skade.
Die produk is aanvanklik ingevoer
maar was nie doeltreffend genoeg
vir die Oos-Kaapse weersomstandighede
nie, en Neil het besluit om
plaaslik ‘n produk te ontwikkel wat
ons weersomstandighede kon weerstaan.
Hul eie produk word tans in
Port Elizabeth vervaardig en
nasionaal versprei.
politieke omgewings jou besigheid?
Is jou gesin (vrou/kinders) enigsins betrokke by jou besigheid? Indien nie, hoe
ondersteun hul jou?
Sy ondersteun my egter geweldig.
Kies jou jubeljaar! My wens vir JOU in hierdie jaar
Ek lees vanoggend in Levitikus 25 oor God se Jubeljaar.
pikswart skryfbord vinnig-vinnig sommer weer vaalwit.
Maar my
borsels kort ‘n behoorlike skoonmaak. Daagliks.
Maar daardie Eenjaar Bybellees-planne laat my keel toetrek! As selferkende obsessief-kompulsiewe-perfeksionis,
sal ek mos klaaglik faal daarmee. Weet jy hoe baie ‘n
bedoeling was.
My God maak dit.
(Jakobus 4:8)
Rus. Laat jou beursie rus. Laat die wêreld rondom jou (met) rus. Gee terug wat nie joune
is nie. Spreek vry. (Levitikus 25)
Mag 2018 JOU Jubeljaar wees!
Liefde
Maxie
is!
Ek was baie beïndruk
my betref net veel deftiger as deesdae se “tabletskerms” wat losstaande vasgebou word by
teen laat 2018 in Suid-Afrika verwag.
Alfa Romeo Stelvio 2.0T is ‘n treffer! Punt.

God designed marriage to be between a man and a woman, for
better, for worse, for life. A marriage is a relationship, a
partnership, a companionship, designed and created by God. But
marriages are not without problems.
In A Biblical Portrait of Marriage, Dr. Bruce Wilkinson outlines six
partnership principles and six problem-solving strategies. With
this series, marriages won’t become perfect—but it will become a
more loving, problem-solving partnership.
gemeenskap kos kook.
Ons doen ‘n beroep op ons gemeenskap om betrokke te raak by hierdie werk deur te skakel met Christo by
074 650 6223 gedurende kantoorure of Hennie by 076 918 8407.

What’s new? 2018 launches
Yes for iPhones?
KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, renowned for making accurate claims around Apple
products prior to their launch, has suggested Apple will announce three new iPhones this
year According to Kuo, the US electronics giant will launch a 5.8 inch device, a 6.5 inch
device and a 6.1 inch ‘lower cost’ smartphone with a LCD display. The 5,8 inch and 6,5 inch
devices are expected to feature OLED displays, Kuo suggested.
He has also said that Apple’s 2018 iPhones will all feature the same borderless display
shape of the iPhone X.It has also been suggested that the 6.5 inch device, which will become
Apple’s largest smartphone, will rival the Samsung Galaxy Note8 launched in South
Africa recently. Kuo recently accurately predicted that Apple would ditch its Touch ID in
favour of Face ID for the iPhone X.
Single African air transport market
A single African air transport market is set to be launched in January. David Kajange,
Head of the Transport and Tourism Division at the African Union (AU), says more than 20
countries, namely South Africa, Benin, Botswana, Cape Verde, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt,
Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra
Leone, Swaziland, Togo and Zimbabwe, have all subscribed to a single African air transport
market. He expects more than 40 will have signed on by January.
The single African air transport market forms part of an Open Skies for Africa vision, first
realised in the 1980s. Kajange says Africa became the most expensive air transport market
in the world because of individual nations’ policies and regulations that hinder air connectivity.
A single air transport market is one of the goals of AU’s Agenda 2063. The agenda hopes
to connect the whole of Africa through aviation to achieve integration and boost intra-Africa
trade.
NASA deep-space rocket, SLS, to launch in 2018
The US space agency’s powerful deep-space rocket, known as the Space Launch System
(SLS), aims to blast off for the first time in 2018, NASA said. The SLS has been in development
for three years already, and when finished it should propel spacecraft beyond Earth’s
orbit and eventually launch crew vehicles to Mars by the 2030s.
Australia: Tea tree oil for dandruff.
Sick of pulling dandruff away from your itchy, dry scalp? Australians use tea tree oil to
combat this problem. Just add a couple of drops into your shampoo and you will be
amazed at the difference. The tea tree oil will moisturize your scalp and prevent all that
itching and flaking.
Brazil: Oatmeal to heal a sunburn.
Brazilians use oats to ease the pain of a sunburn and speed healing. How do you do it?
Next time you get a bad sunburn, tie up some oats in gauze and then position it over the
tap for your bathtub. Turn it on and fill the tub, allowing the water to filter through the bag
with the oats. Soak in the bath and you’ll get fast relief from your sunburn. Oats have
amazing anti-inflammatory healing properties!!
Columbia: Avocado for shiny hair.
Get an avocado, a banana, and a tablespoon of olive oil. Mash them all together to make
a uniform paste. Take that paste and rub it into the roots of your hair. Work it down to the
tips. Do something else for half an hour, and then get in the shower and shampoo, condition
and rinse. The results will astound you!
Chile: Crushed red grapes and flour for glowing skin.
A handful of grapes is all you need and a couple of tablespoons of flour. Mix it together,
apply it to your face for ten minutes, and wash it off. You should get a lovely glow to your
skin. This can work wonders if you are used to looking in the mirror at a fatigued complexion.
Dominican Republic: Garlic for stronger nails.
tip comes from the ladies of the Dominican Republic, who chop fresh garlic and add it to
clear nail polish. They wait about a week to a week and a half, and then apply it to their
nails. Be warned: it will smell foul—but the smell will wear off, and the garlic will leave your
nails harder and stronger. As an added bonus, garlic has antibacterial properties.
France: Get rid of nail stains the easy way.
Have unsightly stains on your nails? A lot of women in France do their own manicures,
and they are experts at dealing with beauty problems like this! It turns out they have the
simplest solution in the world for nail stains. Just soak your fingers in lemon juice for ten
minutes, and most of those stains should go away. It’s very fast and easy!
Greece: Rosemary for healthy hair.
Greek women rinse their hair using water that’s been steeped in rosemary. Rosemary
removes buildup from your hair for a deep cleansing effect. An even better alternative?
Steep a hair rinse out of rosemary and apple cider vinegar. In the shower, combine a few
tablespoons with water and use that to rinse, and you’ll get an even more amazing effect.
Plus, a little bit goes a long ways, and you can use your rinse again and again before you
run out. Be warned, however, that rosemary can darken hair, which is great if that’s what
you are going for, but if you want to keep your locks light, you might want to skip it.
Spain: Cranberry juice to bring out red highlights.
If you are a redhead, a brunette, or even a strawberry blonde, there is a wonderful beauty
secret from Spain that can help you to bring out the red tones in your hair. It’s really easy!
All you have to do is mix cranberry juice with water (about half and half), and pour it over
your head when you are done washing your hair in the shower. This technique works especially
well if you then head outside and spend some time in the sun. Another alternative is
hibiscus flower. If you purchase hibiscus tea, you can use this as a rinse; you may find this
a better option because you do not have the sticky sugary residue from the juice. You don’t
have to rinse it out as a result.
Poland: Try an egg yolk hair mask.
That Italian hair mask using egg whites isn’t the only way you can nourish your hair using
eggs. It turns out that those Italian ladies are actually missing out on the amazing nutrients
in egg yolks! In Poland, women make hair masks using the yolk of the egg along with a
few drops of lemon juice and olive oil. They leave the mask in their hair for fifteen minutes
and then rinse it out. Apparently the egg yolk nutrients strengthen hair so it is less likely
to break. Which is better for hair, the yolk or the whites? You will have to experiment to
decide. Maybe you will end up combining the suggestions from Poland and Italy and using
the whole egg. Sounds like a plan!
Romania: Olive oil and vitamin A for stronger nails.
Looking for a great way to improve the texture of your nails and strengthen them? In
Romania, there is a great secret to strong nails, and that is to soak them in a bowl with
warm olive oil and vitamin A oil. It only takes a few drops of oil, and you only have to do it
every couple of weeks for a few minutes each time. The vitamin A and olive oil will nourish
the cuticle beds, which will cause your nails to grow stronger. They should be less prone
to breakage after a few of these treatments. You may also have less skin peeling around
them, which is a symptom of really dry nail beds.
The Philippines: Aloe for glossy hair.
Break an aloe leaf to get at the juice, and then rub it into your hair and scalp. Don’t have
an aloe leaf handy? That’s okay, you can buy aloe gel from the store. Rinse it out and you
should see glossier locks. Tip: Don’t forget that aloe is also great for your skin! Combine
it with ginger and lime and it makes a wonderful moisturizer. Its inflammatory properties
make it an excellent salve for irritated skin too.
The Philippines: Seaweed for luxurious locks.
Seaweed is a major part of the Japanese diet, and a rich natural source of easily-digested
iodine. Iodine is added to table salt, but it isn’t as easy for your body to digest as the iodine
in seaweed (and if you use sea salt, you are getting even less of it). Head to your local
Asian grocery store and stock up on seaweed and start adding it to your diet!
Singapore: Avocado or papaya for radiant skin.
Here’s another great tip from Singapore! Mash up an avocado or a papaya (both work
great), rub the mixture onto your face, wait for fifteen minutes, and rinse it off. Both of these
have some great oils in them which are ideal for moisturizing your face. Papaya also works
as an exfoliating agent thanks to an enzyme called papain. This is a great way to make use
of avocados that are just a little too ripe. Otherwise they just go to waste!
onsmaaklike kuilvoer lei. Oormatig droë (
January in the garden
If you’re based in the Eastern Cape
Eureka lemon is a great dwarf tree
for your patio or balcony.
Just remember, because of the high
humidity levels to take extra care
when it comes to citrus varieties
with regards to pests.
Some fruit trees available in January for
the Eastern Cape garden: pears; peaches;
mangoes; blueberries and olives.
for the sweat peas you are going to sow
directly next month.
For huge flower power, plant a few
old-fashioned shrimp plants. They are
evergreen, grow in any soil, but need
regular watering and some cutting back to
encourage bushy growth and lots more of
their rewarding flowers. Justicia
brandegeeana has rusty brown shrimp-like
flowers and the bracts of J. brandegeeana
‘Chartreuse’ are lime yellow.
Some hot and spicy January veggie seedlings
available to kick start your kitchen garden:
onions; spring onions; green peppers;
chillies and leeks.
Layer wisteria shoots and make cuttings of
all your “vygies”. Start preparing trenches
Deadhead hydrangeas by cutting the stems
back to two healthy buds. Spread the blown
flowers and stems around the plants at soil
level to act as a cooling mulch if they are
not needed for drying. Feed them again with
a general fertiliser, or a specialised fertiliser
for pink or blue flowers.
1. Kill weeds and grass growing in unwan
ted places by pouring full-strength white distilled
vinegar on them. This works especially
well in crevices and cracks of walkways and
driveways.
cup of white distilled vinegar to a gallon of
tap water is a good mixture.
3. Stop ants from congregating by pouring
white distilled vinegar on the area.
2. Give acid-loving plants like azaleas,
rhododendrons, hydrangeas and gardenias
a little help by watering them with a white
distilled vinegar solution now and again. A
4. Discourage cats from getting into the kids’
sandbox with white distilled vinegar.
5. Preserve cut flowers and liven droopy
ones by adding 2 tablespoons white distilled
vinegar and 1 teaspoon sugar to a quart of
water in a vase.
Roses: What to
do in January
Summer pruning is carried out towards the
middle of this month; this applies to roses
that have grown too high or dense, have
uneven growth or need to be tidied up
January roses
Watering: Keep to the watering schedule
unless there is regular rainfall. Following a
long, two-week period of rain, the leaves
become ‘soft’ and your bushes need to be
watered often and then slowly acclimatised
to dryer conditions. Keep the beds well
mulched.
Fertilising: Fertilise with Ludwig’s Vigorosa
or other rose fertilisers. Don’t sprinkle
fertiliser over wet leaves.
Pest and Disease Control: Stick to the
preventative spray regimen, but keep a
close look out for beetles and red spider
mite which sometimes require a stronger
remedy.
HOW TO SUMMER PRUNE
Removing forked and twiggy growth and
cutting back a little opens up space for the
roses to grow.
Review each bush and only cut back those
that are well covered in leaves. Make sure
the part of the bush below the cut is still
fairly well foliated.
Bushes that are defoliated because of black
spot on their upper leafy growth can be
groomed by cutting out completely denuded
stems on the inside as well as competing
stems.
The remaining stems should have leafy tips
and the tips of these are best pinched off;
this encourages the rose to sprout lower
down. Once the new shoots are about
20cm long, the bush can be cut down to just
above these new shoots to a more manageable
height.
The height of tall roses can be reduced by
undercutting as long as there are leaves on
the stem below the cut. If it is very hot and
dry, carry out the undercutting in two stages
about a week apart. This will result in the
least sap flow disturbance; when the sap
flow slows down it heats up under the bark,
causing sunburn.
6. Get rid of the water line in a flower vase
by filling it with a solution of half water and
half white distilled vinegar, or by soaking a
paper towel in white distilled vinegar and
stuffing it into the vase so that it is in contact
with the water line.
7. Clean out stains and white mineral crusts
in clay, glazed and plastic pots by soaking
them for an hour or longer in a sink filled
with a solution of half water and half white
distilled vinegar.
8. Remove crusty rim deposits on house
planters or attached saucers by soaking
them for several hours in an inch of full
strenght white distilled vinegar.
9. Clean a birdbath by scrubbing it often
with undiluted white distilled vinegar. Rinse
well.
10. Get rid of rust on spigots, tools, screws
or bolts by soaking the items overnight or
for several days in undiluted white distilled
vinegar.
11. Neutralize garden lime by adding white
distilled vinegar to the area.
12. Avoid skin problems after working in
the garden by rinsing your hands in white
distilled vinegar.
13. Increase the acidity of soil by adding
white distilled vinegar to your watering can.
14. Eliminate anthills by pouring in white
distilled vinegar.
15. Cure a cement pond before adding fish
and plants by adding one gallon of white
distilled vinegar to every 200 gallons of
water. Let sit three days. Empty and rinse
thoroughly.
16. Sanitize outdoor furniture and picnic
tables with a cloth soaked in white distilled
vinegar.
17. Kill slugs by spraying them with a mixture
of 1 part water and 1 part white distilled
vinegar.
18. To catch moths use a mixture of 2 parts
white distilled vinegar and 1 part molasses.
Place mixture in tin can and hang in a tree.
19. Keep rabbits from eating your plants.
Put cotton balls soaked in white distilled
vinegar in a 35mm film container. Poke a
hole in the top and place in the garden.

Greyling (Louw Venter), sentraal staan.
In
“Oorleef” jou
eerste dag terug
by die skool!
so bietjie beter te maak!
of ‘n oulike rugsak, ‘n paar cool bykomstighede
of enigiets wat jou hart so bietjie
Maak ‘n uitsien-lysie!
Dalk ‘n kamp waarop jy gaan, dalk wil jy
beter punte kry? Die eerste rugby- of netbalspan
haal? Maak ‘n lysie van 5 skooldinge
waarna jy uitsien!
Doen iets lekker
oorslaap!
Beplan iets nuut
Besluit watter nuwe uitdaging jy hierdie jaar
wil aanpak - dalk skaak leer speel of nuwe
ONTHOU! Daar is dinge wat erger is as
skool!
Skool in antieke China: Kinders in China
moes destyds sewe dae per week skoolgaan!
Skool in antieke Griekeland: Skool in
Griekeland was ook nie juis pret nie. As jy ’n
meisie was, is jy nie toegelaat om skool toe
te gaan nie. Jy moes by die huis bly en leer
kos kook en naaldwerk doen. Seuns kon
Peta Jones se werk: As deel van haar
werk moet Peta Jones aan mense se armholtes
snuif. Jip, jy’t reg gelees. Sy werk as
’n reukweerder-ontwikkelaar by Unilever in
Australië. Jek!!!!!!!!!! Dink net hoe voel sy as
sy ná ’n lang vakansie moet teruggaan werk
toe…
Simon Allison se werk: Dié Britse koskenner
se werk is om hondekos en katkos
te proe. Hy maak seker die kettingwinkel
Marks & Spencer se troeteldierkos smaak
lekker.
Dink mooi daaroor
So, pak jou
skooltas – en geniet die jaar wat voorlê!
Beat the bullies
It is an ugly, cruel and unnecessary
part of school life and is a source of
misery for millions of children.
Today we offer practical ideas for
youngsters to deter bullies, plus tips from
children who have experienced, keep
themselves safe and boost their confidence.
1- BY law, schools must have a way of
dealing with bullying. Use your school’s
anti-bullying policy to get help and if you’re
not sure how it works, talk to your teacher or
headteacher.
Don’t become resigned to being a victim.
You CAN help yourself and get others to
help you.
2 - TELL a friend what is happening. It will
be harder for the bully to pick on you if you
have a pal with you for support.
3 - TRY to ignore the bully or say “No!”
really firmly, then walk away.
Don’t worry if people think you are running
away - it is very hard for the bully to go on
picking on someone who won’t stand still to
listen to their threats.
4 - MOST bullied children have negative
body language - hunched up and looking at
the floor. Try to stand straight and make eye
contact with people.
5 - IF you don’t want to do something, don’t
give in to pressure. Be firm. Remember,
everyone has the right to say no.
6 - SIMPLY repeat a statement again and
again: “No, you can’t have my lunch money,
no, you can’t have my lunch money!” The
bully will get bored because they are not
getting anywhere and give up.
7 - MAKE your phrase short and precise:
Say “It’s my pencil.” or “Go away” firmly.
8- DON’T show that you are upset or angry.
Bullies love to get a reaction - it’s “fun”.
Keep calm and hide your emotions - the
bully might get bored and leave you alone.
9 - AVOID being alone in places where you
know the bully is likely to be. This might
mean changing your route to school, or
avoiding certain parts of the playground,
or only using toilets when other people are
there. It’s not fair, but it might put the bully
off. Remember, your safety is the most
important thing to consider.
10 - STOP thinking like a victim. If you have
been bullied for a long time, you might start
to believe what the bully says - that you’re
ugly, awful and no one will ever like you.
This is “victim-think”.
11 - MAKE a list of all the good things you
can think of about yourself. Talk to yourself
in a positive way.
Say: “I may not look like a film star, but I’m
good at maths and have a brilliant sense of
humour.”
KIDS’ CODE
PRACTICE “walking tall”. Bullies pick on
people they think are weak. If you look confident,
the bully is less likely to pick on you.
KIDS’ CODE
STICK with a group - even if they are not
really your friends. Bullies tend to pick on
people when they are on their own.
KIDS’ CODE
KEEP a diary about what is happening. A
written record of the bullying makes it much
easier to prove what has been going on.
KID’S CODE
DON’’T fight back if you can help it.
You could make the situation worse, get hurt
or even be blamed for starting the trouble.
IT’’S not worth getting hurt over a
possession. You may have to give bullies
what they want. Property can be replaced -
you can’’t.
Sleeping Next to Your Phone
Could Seriously Damage
Your Health
Bad news for those of us permanently attached to our cellphones (so pretty
much all of us): Cuddling with your cellphone — or even sleeping with it on
the nightstand next to you — could be hazardous to your health.
BY LEAH GROTH
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) just issued some information and
guidelines about cellphone safety, and what it reveals is pretty frightening. Because,
honestly, who doesn’t at least have their phone on the nightstand, if not next to or underneath
their pillow?
So what exactly is going on here? Well, cellphones emit radio frequency (RF) energy when
they send and receive information from surrounding cell towers, and that RF may or may
not be dangerous. Why the ambiguity? Well, since cellphones haven’t been around long
enough, it’s difficult to determine the long-term repercussions of their use. As the CDPH
explains, their danger is “still evolving.”
However, according to the guidelines, some studies have found that “long-term, high use of
cellphones may be linked to certain types of cancer and other health effects.”
These “other health effects” include “brain cancer and tumors of the acoustic nerve (needed
for hearing and balance) and salivary glands, lower sperm counts and inactive or less mobile
sperm, headaches and effects on learning and memory, hearing, behavior and sleep.”
So, yeah — potentially very dangerous.
Even though these links aren’t definitively proven yet, you may still want to reduce your
exposure to RF, just to be on the safe side. That’s why the CDPH has issued the following
recommendations:
Keep your phone away from your body: Even just a few feet will make a big difference. Use
a Bluetooth headset as much as possible, send text messages instead of talking on the
phone, keep the phone away from you while downloading or sending large files and carry
your phone in a backpack or purse instead of a pocket, bra or belt holster.
Avoid using your cellphone when it’s sending out high levels of RF**:** This happens
when only one or two bars of service are displayed (when your signal is weak), you’re in a
fast-moving vehicle, you’re streaming audio or video or you’re downloading or sending large
files.
Don’t sleep with your phone in your bed or near your head**:** Unless you switch it over to
airplane mode, keep it at least a few feet away. Nope, no more sleeping with it under your
pillow waiting for that call.
Take off the headset when you’re not on a call: Headsets release a small amount of RF
even when you aren’t using your phone. So even though they’re better than holding the
phone up to your head, you still want to limit RF exposure as much as possible.
Don’t rely on a “radiation shield” or other products claiming to block RF energy, electromagnetic
fields or radiation from cellphones: According to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission,
any product that interferes with the phone’s signal may make it work harder and possibly
emit more RF energy in order to stay connected, which totally defeats their purpose.
The report also mentions that kids are at a greater risk than adults. Their brains and bodies
are so much smaller and less developed that the same amount of RF will have a greater impact
on them. Also, by the time they’re adults, they’ll have been exposed to more RF in their
lifetime than those of us who haven’t been holding a smartphone since we were toddlers.
While there isn’t much research on the impact of RF on children, the few studies that have
been done show that children or teens may suffer “hearing loss or ringing in the ears, headaches
and decreased general well-being.” So it might be a good idea to keep cellphones
away from your kids as long as possible.
Before you totally freak out and trade in your iPhone for a landline (you know, those old
analog phones that people plugged into a jack?), keep in mind that the “science is still
evolving.”
While more research is needed to identify short- and long-term health implications of cellphone
use, exercise caution and common sense and try sleeping with your cellphone on
the other side of the room.

more information on www.parkrun.co.za)
fondse in te samel vir my gunsteling liefdadigheid, Die Rooikruis
Kinderhospitaal”
my,” het Bredell geskryf.
