IT’S GREAT to see a community<br />
group taking charge of its situation.<br />
I’m talking about the Governors<br />
<strong>Bay</strong> Jetty Restoration Trust which<br />
hopefully tomorrow will be able to<br />
buy the earthquake damaged jetty<br />
for $1.<br />
The trust has ambitious plans to<br />
take control of the jetty, raise the<br />
bulk of the $3 million plus needed<br />
to repair it and then sell the jetty<br />
back to the city council for $1.<br />
The city council will then maintain<br />
it in the future.<br />
It’s a fantastic plan by the trust.<br />
The jetty is a real drawcard for the<br />
bay.<br />
The trust has been fighting to buy<br />
the damaged jetty and fully restore<br />
it to save it from being demolished<br />
or abandoned.<br />
You have to applaud them for<br />
that.<br />
It’s a no brainer that the<br />
city council accepts the dollar<br />
