After purchasing the business in 2016, Jeremy de Gouw decided to give it a new lease of life so it would be in keeping with the many other exciting developments happening in Ferrymead. “We needed to keep up with the neighbours, so I moved the business to the new premises, which are three times the size of the previous outlet, and designed the store to fit with the future of Ferrymead,” Jeremy says. The completely refurbished premises offer a bright, spacious and modern environment for customers, with a huge range of products on display. These include an extensive selection of wines from right across New Zealand, with a strong emphasis on boutique varieties rather than mainstream brands. Many of them are single estate wines, and labels include Gibston Valley and quality Penfolds wines. Sam Neill’s Two Paddocks wines have been introduced to the store, along with Graeme Norton’s Sauvignon Blanc, which is produced in Marlborough. Many international wines are also stocked. There is also an excellent range of Scotch whisky, which Jeremy describes as one of the best in the area, as well as brandy, Jack Daniels and other popular spirits. Ferrymead Super Liquor also offers an extensive range of beers to suit all tastes. These include craft beers, such as the local Monsoon brand, Epic, Pan Head, Shakespeare, Moa and Monteith’s. Many of them are available in single 500ml bottles, not necessarily packs, giving customers the opportunity to give new ones a try. And customers are invited to chat to the staff about the products and get some advice. “Our friendly staff at Ferrymead Super Liquor don’t just sell liquor – they help customers make informed choices,” Jeremy says. “Customers can also email us their order and we will have it ready for them when they come in. Our specials can be found on our Super Liquor website or follow us on Facebook, where we post our group specials and the odd Ferrymead treat.” Wine tastings on Friday and Saturday afternoons, of new and unique products are an opportunity for customers to taste different labels and varieties, Jeremy says. We have mobile Eftpos so it’s very simple, plus it saves them time. Talk to our team about it,” Jeremy says. After 25 years’ experience in different areas of the retail sector, Jeremy is now enjoying the liquor store environment and the customer interaction it provides. “The customers come in to buy products that they are going to enjoy socially with their family and friends, so it’s a pleasant experience for them. And they often like to spend a few minutes chatting – I really like having that interaction with them,” he says. Ferrymead Super Liquor has plenty of parking right outside the store. Opening hours are Sunday to Wednesday, 10am-9pm, Thursday to Saturday, 10am- 10pm. It is located in Kite Lane, opposite the new Casual & Country building.
