Wednesday December 6 2017 Latest Christchurch news at www.star.kiwi BAY HARBOUR PAGE 7 CLOSED: The Lyttelton Kayak company (inset) was forced to shut down operations after breaching the city council’s District Plan. Kayak business to return •From page 1 “The business breached the district plan and also the Building Act 2004 however, upon identifying these breaches the city council has been working with the business owner towards achieving compliance. Unfortunately, this has not been achieved resulting in a fine being issued in May 2017.” Mr Trolove said following meetings between his lawyer and city council staff, he’s been told the business can reopen, once a house is built on the section. He anticipated it would take about a year to build and Lyttelton Kayaks would reopen in summer 2018/19. The news was a relief. “It’s something I’m quite passionate about because Lyttelton Harbour is such a beautiful recreation for the people of Christchurch.” He wasn’t concerned someone could open a competing business in the meantime. “There’s plenty of water. I’ve got about 40 kayaks and no debt so if someone else comes in I can play fun and games with them and not worry too much.” Mr Trolove said along with the $30,000 it had cost him in fines and lawyers fees, he had also lost 10 years of word-of-mouth marketing. He wouldn’t say how much income he’d lost since the closure, but said it would be “quite a bit.” Your local convenience store • Ice creams • Fruit & veg • Lotto • Post Shop 85 Main Road, Redcliffs P: 384-3366 | Open 7.30am-9pm oFten quoted as “the best thai in ChRistChuRCh” Amazing authentic Thai food will also turn you into a Green Chilli Thai restaurant advocate. big oFFeR Wednesday sPeCial! 3-course banquet deal! only $22pp Home Delivery, Takeaway available, BYO, Vegetarian Friendly GREEN CHILLI THAI RestauRant 1/596 Ferry Road Woolston, Christchurch greenchilli@windowslive.com Phone: 03 384 9993 or 03 381 2855 ALL NEW LANDSCAPE ZONE • Screened Soil • Vege/Zoom Grow • Bio Blend • Garden Grow BULK COMPOST, LAWN MIX, AGGREGATES AND STONES The new Ferrymead Mitre10 Trade Centre and Landscaping Zone has everything you need to complete your projects. • Turf Mix • Tree Mulch • Black Mulch • Standard Bark Nuggets • Premium Bark Nuggets • Builders Mix • AP20 Shingle • AP40 Shingle • Plastering Sand • Brick Sand • Bedding Sand • Crusher Dust FREE LOAN TRAILERS!
