Spectacular night under
the stars raises $10,000
OPENING: Pupils from Harewood School were excited to
be involved in the opening of the Russley Rd underpass last
week. Aidan Brannan (below left), of McConnell Dowell and
Downer, and school leaders Jacob Frost and Brianna Gauci,
both aged 10, buried a time capsule with New Zealand
Transport Agency southern region director Jim Harland.
The time capsule included stories the pupils had written.
The new underpass allows cyclists and walkers to safely
get across the road. The New Zealand Transport Agency
is undertaking $112 million worth of upgrades to the road
which is expected to be completed in 2018.
AN EXCITING night out with
the stars was held at Fendalton
Open Air School with about
1200 people showing up to the
event.
The Spectacular Space and
Science Night was held last
Friday to raise money so the
school can further advance its
outdoor spaces.
Robots, the Martin Jetpack,
a planetarium and hand-made
rockets were just some of the fun
activities featured at the event.
Fendalton School parent
teachers association member
Sarah Bourke said about $10,000
was raised from the evening.
“It was brilliant. There was the
most amazing community buzz
around the place,” she said.
Mrs Bourke said the event
brought a diverse range of
people together with the Chinese
community making dumplings
and Japanese making sushi.
While it has not been decided
what type of spaces the money
will go towards, the school is
looking at options including
gardens, outdoor furniture,
landscaping and painting
murals.
