Papanui businesses as they face<br />
the prospect of losing car parks<br />
outside their stores (see page 1).<br />
The city council is proposing<br />
to get rid of 22 car parks between<br />
Harewood Rd and Grassmere St.<br />
Proposing generally means that’s<br />
what will happen.<br />
And no surprises the affected<br />
businesses aren’t happy.<br />
The car parks will be taken away<br />
to make way for bus lanes, and<br />
that is the dilemma.<br />
Christchurch is an ever expanding<br />
city and with that comes more<br />
traffic. We do need to be encouraging<br />
public transport, cycling and<br />
other ways getting from A to B.<br />
There is no simple answer.<br />
