An exhibition is on at the<br />

Brighton Gallery for the month<br />

of <strong>October</strong>. The paintings on<br />

show are done by local artist Judy<br />

Harrington. Ms Harrington has<br />

been painting for more than 10<br />

years and the mediums she uses<br />

include watercolour, acrylic and<br />

oils. Her artwork is mostly about<br />

landscapes and wildlife, specialising<br />

in birds. She also teaches<br />

painting and drawing.<br />

Annual Church Fair<br />

Saturday, <strong>October</strong> 22, 9am-noon<br />

Holy Trinity Avonside is holding<br />

its annual community fair on<br />

its grounds at 168 Stanmore Rd.<br />

Community stalls are welcome at<br />

the fair, so if you wish to load up<br />

your boot, or sell from your own<br />

table, please book a site by phoning<br />

389 6948. The event will go<br />

ahead even if the weather is bad.<br />

There will be a variety of stalls<br />

including books, cakes, crafts,<br />

teas, plants, raffles, a sausage<br />

sizzle, second-hand clothing and<br />

many more. Go along to listen to<br />

the ukulele band and enjoy all the<br />

fun of the fair.<br />

Awareness week and provides<br />

a goal for trust members to<br />

drawings, paintings, photography,<br />

mosaics, stone carving and<br />

Australian Car Show will<br />

more. From the classics from the<br />

1950s onwards, up to the very<br />

latest models, a large variety<br />

of cars from Australian-based<br />

manufactures will be on display.<br />

Kite Flying on the Beach<br />

Every day, <strong>11</strong>am-4pm<br />

Any day, weather permitting,<br />

kites are flown on the beach near<br />

the pier. Go along to watch, or<br />

bring a kite and join in. Recapture<br />

your childhood, and let your<br />

children experience the joy of<br />

kites. The Christchurch easterly<br />

wind is ideal for kite flying, so<br />

dress appropriately and go along,<br />

any time of the year.<br />

NATIONAL TOURNAMENT: During Labour Weekend, eastern<br />

suburbs football club Coastal Spirit will hold the under-19 Lotto<br />

Tournament. In previous years, both the men’s and women’s<br />

matches have been well attended throughout the long<br />

weekend. The two finals are played on Monday afternoon. All<br />

matches will be held at Cuthberts Green in Aranui, with no entry<br />

fee. For more information on the event, go to Facebook and<br />

search for under-19 Lotto Tournament.<br />
