PLANS TO build a cafe
and retail space on Union
St have upset neighbouring
residents.
Brendan Moir and
Patricia Claypoole’s
property shares a
boundary fence with 183
Union St, where a resource
consent application
has been lodged for a
commercial unit housing a
cafe and a dairy.
The pair said in
submissions they fear the
building will be intrusive,
unsightly and affect the
resale value of their house.
Now vacant land, there
were previously three small
shops on the site.
The new building would
be 30m2 larger, with
developer Christine Chen,
who holds the lease on
on the dairy at 185 Union
St, looking to operate the
businesses seven days a
week, from 7am - 8pm.
Ms Claypoole and Mr
Moir said when they bought
their property, they weren’t
aware that such a large
increase in size could occur
on the neighbouring site.
Their house is set at the
back of their section, near
the shared boundary fence.
