Motoring Planned pool gets project manager • By Noah Graham THE LINWOOD Woolston pool is beginning to make progress with the appointment of a new project manager. The community has been without a pool Tasty Bites since the February, 2011, earthquake, but it seems progress is speeding up. Construction of the more than $20m project is expected to begin in 2018 and it has now been assigned a project manager and an architect. Linwood-Central- Heathcote Community Board member and city councillor Sara Templeton (left) said everything is going full steam ahead. She was concerned over the lack of progress, but is glad the ball has started to roll. Cr Templeton said the team will be looking at potential sites for the pool, with the obvious one being the old nursery on Smith St. She said the report on potential sites is expected to be available within two months with consultation to follow. Looking forward, she said the pool will be an integral part of the community. “It needs to be accessible and affordable for everyone.” WEST Spreydon School pupils impressed the judges at the Oderings School Garden Show last week. The pupils’ display told the story of the Amazon Rainforest deforestation. Their story focused on an orangutan who watched his home being destroyed. The WELL DONE: Sophie, Molly-Ann and Isabel Harrison won the gold award after their display about the Amazon Rainforest deforestation impressed the judges. Gold for garden pupils were inspired by last year’s Olympic Games opening ceremony where every athlete was given a seed to plant to re-establish the rainforest. Their interests and learning then moved to the Amazon Rainforest, deforestation, palm oil and the negative effects it is having on the orangutan’s home. Money Sell your home for a premium!
