Celebrating
Coaches Evening
Coaches from across the Aktive Coaching & Talent Development network
and programmes were invited to the first Celebrating Coaches evening
with fellow coaches across codes and the region.
Coaches very rarely get the chance to collaborate and
share thoughts outside of their respective codes. By
bringing together coaches, they can compare practices
and philosophies – comparisons that are invaluable to
their development as coaches.
As such, on the night coaches from the various
coaching programmes within the Aktive Coaching &
Talent Development network reflected on their coaching
journey. Sharing lessons that they have for others, driven
from their experiences as an athlete or their current role
in coaching. Headlining the night was former Professor of
Physical Education and Director of Competitive Sports at
the United States Military Academy at West Point,
Dr. Ralph Pim.
The start of what is hoped to become a recurring annual
event on coaches’ calendars, the night provided a
much-needed forum allowing for coaches to further
develop themselves amongst their peers.
Over the past year, Aktive Coaching
& Talent Development has provided
460 development opportunities
to a total of 3,800 coaches.
All speakers reflected messages that can be often
forgotten; keep things fun for athletes and participants
to encourage positive sporting experiences, coaches are
often also coaches of life skills and that as a coach you
are a leader to those that you coach.
