20 Tuesday July 12 2016 SELWYN TIMES News New president for Malvern Lions Club • By Caitlin Miles MALVERN LIONS Club has welcomed their new president and said goodbye to an original member. District councillor and Lions member John Morten took over from previous president Brian Davidson at the organisation’s last meeting. The Lions also said farewell to Murray Faulkner, who had been in the club since it began 45 years ago. He left because he recently moved to Ashburton. Mr Davidson was the president of the Malvern Lions for a year. “Every year there is a new president elected. That way we keep things moving,” said Mr Davidson. Mr Morten said being the president would “not mean much” if it wasn’t for the team of people in the organisation. “You’re really only steering the ship, there are all the sailors putting in the hard work,” Mr Morten said. With a club of 54 members Mr Morten hopes to have an exciting and successful year. WINNER: Central Heating New Zealand managing director Lyall Smith with The Star Home and Leisure Show prizewinner Kate Shaw. Mrs Shaw won a new central heating system for her home in West Melton. PHOTOS: GEOFF SLOAN Timely win at Home and Leisure Show WEST MELTON resident Kate Shaw will no longer need to worry about keeping the chill out of her home this winter. Last weekend, Mrs Shaw walked out of the The Star Home and Leisure Show with the winning ticket for a new central heating system for her home. “I’m very excited . . . this is the first sort of prize I have ever won,” Mrs Shaw said. The system, designed to radiate heat throughout the house, was sponsored by Central Heating New Zealand. Central Heating New Zealand managing director Lyall Smith said the unit is a warm water central heating system. “They work very well. Silent, warm, radiant, lovely to have,” he said. Mr Smith said the radiated panels situated throughout the house will heat the water pumped through the radiators to warm the house. More than 100 exhibitors packed into Horncastle Arena for the three-day show last week with some of the exhibitions ranging from motor homes to trampolines. Star Media event manager Vanessa Fleming said it was a fantastic show with “thousands” through the door.
