30 4 [Edition datE] Tuesday July 19 2016 SELWYN HOME PROFESSIONALS A ONE-STOP SHOP FOR HOME RENOVATIONS SELWYN TIMES adding on an extension or renovating is a great way to revitalise a house especially where its footprint is no longer practical for the family’s needs. This may also be more affordable and less inconvenient than selling up and shifting, especially if the location is one the family enjoys. KTM Builders limited is a specialist home improvement building company. owner Keith Moore, has years of experience in bringing new life into a house making him the ideal person to talk to when looking to renovate. He can suggest ideas on how the most can be made of floor space, where to extend and how an outdoor area could be better utilised. Whether it is removing a wall, adding on a new kitchen, enlarging the living room, or upgrading a bathroom or kitchen, Keith has done it all. Some call him the bathroom expert as Keith has remodelled so many little rooms, as well as a good number of kitchens. He can suggest ways to make a room more workable or expand the family living area and will provide accurate measurements for a kitchen designer to work with, while directing clients to affordable kitchen manufacturers. if wanting to rejuvenate or take more advantage of the outdoor living space then Keith can construct decks, pergolas and walls that will add character and create shade and shelter from the sun and wind. KTM Builders limited is a one-stop shop. They will complete much of the job themselves from the carpentry work through to the plastering, painting and even fitting showers and laying tiles. This leads to a speedier outcome as there is less waiting around for sub-contractors to arrive, which can slow down the job. KTM Builders also work closely with their own electrical and plumbing contractors assuring a timely finish with no delays. Keith will take care of the whole project from start to finish, or work with others who might manage the project. He is a licensed building practitioner with over fifteen years’ experience working on residential building work, and is Site Safe trained and registered. over the years, Keith has also trained four young people who live in Selwyn, taking them through their apprenticeships to become fully qualified carpenters; the most recent being his son Jayden. along with wife Trish, Keith is passionate about their local community reflected in their involvement and sponsorship of the Southbridge under-Seven’s rugby team. With spring approaching, now is a good time to think about any renovations you have planned, especially if you would like them completed by christmas and the summer holidays. Whether looking to begin a building project or just wanting ideas, Keith is only too happy to have a chat. SELWYN TIMES Tuesday [Edition July 19 datE] 2016 31 5 SELWYN HOME PROFESSIONALS LOOKING AFTER THE COMMUNITY’S OUTDOORS THree local businesses have deservedly been nominated for the 2016 Sensational Selwyn awards, a bi-annual event held by the Selwyn district council to recognise the work and achievements of local businesses. The outdoor Space is one of three businesses nominated for the community project award. aaron and Vicky Bartlett from The outdoor Space, joined up with alan and aileen peacock from iSl (independent Signs ltd) in rolleston, and lincoln envirotown Trust for a fruit trees in schools initiative. alan and aileen peacock came up with the idea of planting fruit trees on school grounds in the Selwyn district, after watching a television programme that concluded that there was insufficient fruit in children’s lunch boxes. With the support of other local business people who donated funds to pay for the trees, the three businesses instigated a planting programme at the district’s primary schools where each school would receive ten fruit trees per year. So far, approximately twenty primary schools in the district have had fruit trees planted on their grounds. “The first crop was planted in 2015,” explains Vicky who says that some schools made it a grand affair while others incorporated the planting into their teaching with the children drawing up a planting plan and helping with the planting.” Vicky is enthusiastic about the benefits for the children who learn new skills and that food does not just come from the supermarket, with the best benefit being that once fruiting, the students get to see and eat the fruit. The outdoor Space team have also been busy landscaping and aaron emphasises the importance of booking early so work will be completed for the growing season. as specialists in both hard and soft landscaping they can assist with: walls, stonework, decks, paving, fencing, pergolas, water features, outdoor fires, irrigation systems, lawns, and planting out. if you have some quirky recyclables, old bricks, pallets, wooden windows, or a bike that granny used to ride then why not consider incorporating these into your landscaping. old taps can be turned into a water feature and old tools welded together for a gate or set into concrete. it might also save a little on the budget. “you dream it up, and we’ll do our best,” say aaron who loves being innovative and is always happy to offer landscaping advice and provide a free quote. He can be contacted on 021 542 402. There are also landscaping examples on their website: http://www. theoutdoorspace.co.nz/ and they are currently working on an ideas centre at their rolleston base so clients can view landscaping materials and how they blend together, without having to take a trip into town. Watch out too for their two new trucks. email the number plates of both vehicles to: landscapeyouroutdoorspace@gmail. com by Friday, 19 th august this year and they will put you in the draw for one of five $20 Southern Woods vouchers.
