8 Tuesday September 6 2016 BON VOYAGE: Shirley Boys’ High School associate head boy Sean Takai has been selected to travel to France to help commemorate the Battle of the Somme. Sean was picked by the French Embassy in Wellington, a group of national language advisers and the New Zealand Association of French Teachers as one of 10 students to travel to France and Belgium in September to mark the 100th anniversary of the battle. He will travel with Materia Hutana, of Cashmere High School, the only other Christchurch representative. SCHOOLS PEGASUS POST HONING THEIR SKILLS: Rock climbing was one of the many activities Wainoni School pupils took part in during their three-day camp at Living Springs last week. Two Wainoni classes attended the camp, with about 37 pupils in total. During their time at the camp, pupils visited a farm, went swimming and trampolining, fired air rifles, tried their hand at archery and went hiking. Marshland School’s senior hip hop group ,Wow the Audience, put on a top 10 performance at an inter-school competition last week. The group performed a well-choreographed dance at the Elmwood School Auditorium, and earned a spot in the top 10 in their first competition. Marshland principal Jacqui Pascoe said the group came together for an awesome performance.
