SELWYN TIMES Tuesday September 20 2016 13
Chris Martin:
Springs Ward -
district councillor
I have 27 years experience
with councils
advocating for youth
and communities.
During this time, projects I have
worked on have won international
and national awards for
their community involvement
and innovation. Who knows the
place they live better than the
people who live there? Council
and community should not be
them and us, it is we. Selwyn
has incredible opportunities for
creative community lead solutions
facilitated by a courageous
council. For that we need a team
of councilors that are positive
and passionate. I believe I am
one of those councillors. Join
Malcolm Lyall:
Springs Ward -
district councillor
I have a strong vision
for Selwyn’s future. I
am passionate about
preserving the best
of the lifestyle that this district
offers, while embracing the
opportunities created by growth
for its people.
I am experienced voice around
the council table.
I have successfully represented
the aspirations and needs of
the people of Springs ward. I
have been instrumental in projects
including the Prebbleton
Community Cottage, the Down
by the Liffey Gallery and the
Lincoln Event Centre.
I am standing again because I
have a genuine passion for this
role and there are projects that I
would like to see completed.
John [Jum]
Morten:
Malvern Ward -
district councillor
After 40 years farming
in the Malvern
ward I am now a
resident of Darfield.
I’ve had the privilege of representing
the Malvern ward for 12
years.
I value working with community
committees and residents on a
range of projects, finding solutions
for their issues or acting as
the connection with council. I
am approachable and accessible.
I am committed to providing
strong and effective local governance
for the long term benefit
of our community and I believe
I have the skill, experience and
enthusiasm to continue representing
the Malvern ward of the
Selwyn District Council.
Karen Meares:
Malvern
Community
Board - Tawera
Subdivision
I have lived in the
Selwyn high country
all my life. I work in tourism and
have a farming, rural contracting
background. I enjoy meeting and
helping people. I am involved in
various district events, fund raising,
district promotions, developing
recreational opportunities.
Many Selwyn residents are rural
and our population spread over a
large area. Thus the need to have
a direct community representative
to link with the council is
an important democratic right.
I would listen to community
concerns, communicate council
updates back to the community
and be involved in decision making
for the good of our area.
Ken May: Malvern
Community
Board - Hawkins
Subdivision
I have lived in
Kirwee for 17 years
and have involved
myself in the Community, when
time has permitted. Now I am
retired I am in a far better position
to involve myself in wider
Community matters. My vision
is to improve the Malvern Ward
in its position as gateway to the
Southern Alps and the West
Coast and make the area a tourist
destination, even if only in
transit. I have also been nominated
for the Canterbury District
Health Board, because of my
experience with the healthcare
industry for the 16 years prior to
my retirement.
Murray Lemon: Ellesmere Ward - district councillor
I have lived and worked in the district my whole life including running
my own electrical business which ultimately employed three staff. I have
had a wide involvement in local sport and community organisations
including Killinchy Hall Committee, Foundation Trustee of the Ellesmere
Heritage Park and 12 years on the BoT’s at Leeston Consolidated School
and Ellesmere College, chairing both for three years respectively. I work
well within a team and have proven my ability to effectively lead others. I wish to take
this experience and knowledge to the next level and use my skills to benefit all Selwyn
residents.
Diane Chesmar: Ellesmere Ward - district councillor
I live at Norwood, our two children attended our locals schools,
Dunsandel and Ellesmere College. As our district continues to grow and
become increasingly diverse, it is important that we ensure our communities
are strong, welcoming and inclusive. Selwyn’s most important asset is
its people and they know the needs and aspirations of their community
- Residents should be consulted and heard very early in any planning process.
I have a proven track record of standing up for what I believe in and I will work
for you, and with you, to ensure you get the best possible representation at council.
