22 Tuesday

22 Tuesday October 18 2016 A LATE order batting collapse saw Weedons fall short in their run chase against Oxford in the latest round of the Canterbury Country premier one day competition. Bowling first, pace bowlers Sam Haselwood and Kane Mayerhoof dismissed three of Oxford’s top four batsmen for single figures. However, it was an experienced campaigner at the other end doing the damage for the visitors. Canterbury and former Black Cap Peter Fulton was a calming presence as others fell around him, top scoring with 40 runs which included five boundaries. Only three Oxford batsmen scored in double figures as they fell to be all out in the 42nd over for 183. Mayerhoof and George SPORTS Batters let Weedons down in run chase Redpath both picked up three wickets for Weedons. Weedons run chase got off to a promising start. Opener Josh Watson top scored with 52 and combined with Will Duncan for a 50-run fourth wicket partnership to have the team at 103-2 after 26 overs. A collapse saw Weedons lose three wickets for just two runs. This sparked a quick finish to their hopes of a first win this summer. They were bowled out for 152 in the 40th over, 32 runs short of their target. It wasn’t a day to remember for Weedons bowler Jonathan Green. His bowling figures included one wicket, 21 wides and a no-ball from his five overs. He was then dismissed for a one ball golden duck in the second innings.
