A range of local events received funding including Darfield Artweek, the NZ Ploughing Association Championship, Waihora Community Fireworks Display, the South Island Dairying Development Centre Dairy Farm Open Day, Hororata Highland Games, Koru Games, Selwyn Running Festival, Children’s Day, Rolleston Community Fireworks and the Waitangi Day Community Country Picnic. The fund was established in 2013 to support community events held around the district which are open to the public; attract local, regional and international visitors; and promote the Selwyn district. Local events help make Selwyn a great place to live in and the funding helps supports community organisations who organise the events. Are you passionate about the arts and your community? If you have a creative project but are unsure of how to fund it, Creative Communities Selwyn can help you achieve your goals. It is there to encourage and support creative projects in Selwyn that strengthen our community. The fund is open to everyone to apply and the criteria is simple. DISRUPTION TO WATER RACE SERVICE – ROLLESTON Council contractors will soon start piping the Tennyson Street water race between Kidman Street to south of the Rolleston School. This is part of a series of roading upgrades planned as part of the Rolleston Town Centre Master Plan starting with providing a roundabout at the intersection of Tennyson Street, Byron Street and Kidman Street. Piping of the water race will enable a new footpath to be installed and parking improvements to occur along Rolleston Schools’ frontage, which will then progressively extend south along Tennyson Street over time. Schick Construction will be undertaking water race works between 21 November and 22 December 2016. Work will recommence in late January until the end of February 2017. Water race users will experience a reduced water race supply during this time as pumps will be used to divert water around the work site. Questions relating to this disruption should be directed to the Council on 347 2800.
