Models seek help for New York trip TWO SELWYN models who have been selected for New York Fashion Week are still a long way off their fundraising goal. Jayde Vivian, 16, of Leeston, and Jaime Spencer, 20, of Lincoln, are two of three New Zealand models hand-picked through the Ozlink Fashion Programme to walk in several NYFW shows in February. Jaime has so far raised $475 and Jayde has raised $565 VISIT OUR NEW LOCATION LOCATION 430 ST ASAPH STREET! RECOVER YOUR LOVED FURNITURE No job too big or small through their Givealittle pages. “It’s quite slow so I’m hoping it will pick up soon,” Jaime said. They envisage they’ll need about $5000 each to pay for flights, accommodation and other expenses. The pair need sponsorship for the trip because they’re both students. Jayde’s sister Jaz Vivian has set up a page on behalf of her younger sister. “As you can imagine, the cost of this is going to be quite high and with Jayde being a student we are looking for sponsorship in a few forms to help fund this trip,” she said. The pair will spend 10 days in New York taking part in the major international Amit Singh Chahaun show, two boutique shows and two realway shows. They’ll also get a city and studio photo shoot with a professional fashion photographer. The girls will be in New York from February 9 to February 22. SELWYN TIMES Tuesday December 13 2016 19 CHRISTMAS SPIRIT: The Smithies family will open a ‘time tunnel’ at their Waterholes Rd property. Take in the time tunnel A FAMILY of 13 will open a 250m time tunnel near Rolleston to the community for seven days in what they say is a bid to create unique Christmas memories. The illuminated bush tunnel featuring life-sized biblical and historical figures and other surprises will be open seven days, starting from Friday. The project was a family effort for the Smithies, Roger and Gwenda and their 11 children, with almost everyone involved in setting it up – from stringing lights to creating characters and dreaming up surprises. Mrs Smithies said they did not want to give too much away about what sort of figures people would encounter in the tunnel but promotional material for it invites people to “experience the wonder of the first Christmas.” Entry will be by gold coin donation, with the funds going towards expenses and projects in India which aim to set families free from poverty by helping them establish small businesses. The time tunnel, will be open daily, 9pm-10pm, from Friday until December 23, at 293 Waterholes Rd. DRAWING ON TALENT: West Melton School year 5 pupil Yoris drew this stormtrooper mask for a recent exhibition held at the school. The exhibition of work by year 5 and 6 pupils was open to the whole school community. During the term, the pupils have learned about how art can connect a community and visited sculptures on display in Christchurch as part of the Scape public art festival. YOUNG CRITICS: New entrant pupils look at art on display as part of the exhibition.
