Safe Sanctuaries Policy

Safe Sanctuaries Policy Hope UMC seeks to create a safe environment for children, youth and vulnerable adults in which opportunities for abuse and bullying are minimized by the provision of proper enlistment and supervision of those persons working with them. Our Safe Sanctuaries guidelines mandate the following: All persons who intend to work with children, youth or vulnerable adults at HOPE UMC sponsored events, including overnight or longer events, must be properly screened and attend a training session conducted on child protection and abuse and have a background check completed every 3 years. Parents or guardians must sign in and sign out their children ages 0 to grade 6 for participation in the Nursery, Jesus Junction and all other Children’s Ministry events. Two non-related adults (who are Safe Sanctuaries certified) must always be present in groups of children, youth or vulnerable adults, except in emergency situations and where not reasonably feasible. Children should be escorted to the bathroom with the adult remaining outside the bathroom door. The exception is if the child needs assistance, then the 2 adult rule applies. It is illegal to take and/or post photos or videos of children and youth without parental consent. Do not post any photos or videos of children or youth from HOPE UMC sponsored events without a photo release form signed by the parent or guardian. All children/youth must provide a permission/liability form with emergency information signed by their parent/guardian for all off-site events/activities. Children’s Ministry Welcome Center Returns January 14th! Parents and Guardians, our sign-in table for Jesus Junction and the nursery returns to the narthex on Sunday, January 14, 2018. In accordance with our Safe Sanctuaries guidelines, be sure to sign in your children before you enter the Sanctuary. We will not be able to allow children into the nursery or Jesus Junction without parental or guardian consent.
