Nurturing young men and women in faith, character, leadership. In an increasingly competitive culture, CHA takes a holistic approach to educating the child’s mind, body and heart. Through mentoring programs for middle and high school students and weekly chapels, students connect biblical truth to their daily lives and receive spiritual support. Innovative programs, such as the “Winterim” term in January, allow students to enjoy special courses and programs such as a Leadership Camp at HoneyRock through Wheaton College, serving trips to the Dominican Republic, or internships at local hospitals. One parent stated, “My child has grown in spiritual maturity and character, but she has also taken advantage of the academically rigorous honors and AP courses and has had more club leadership opportunities than she would have had at a huge school. She is thriving in every way and at the same time building a strong portfolio for college.” “Christian Heritage Academy is unique among schools in this region, combining academic excellence with a Christian worldview,” CHA President Hutz Hertzberg said. “Christian Heritage Academy partners with parents to develop future leaders who will take their faith into the world and serve their communities with excellence.” Visit Christian Heritage Academy and discover the difference a Christcentered education can make in your child’s life. The non-profit, nondenominational preschool will relocate to The Village Presbyterian Church in downtown Northbrook in July. The move signifies a homecoming, as NCNS was previously based at the corner of Shermer Road and Church Street from 1955 to 1975. The location offers NCNS bright, big classrooms and excellent facilities perfectly suited to school’s play-based philosophy. A beautiful back garden, soon to be equipped with a new playground, invites children to explore outside. NCNS has a strong reputation for preparing children for kindergarten and beyond. Each preschool class is taught by two highly-experienced coteachers using the Creative Curriculum model. This flexible curriculum engages students in theme-based study units while fostering development across social/ emotional, physical, cognitive, and language platforms. A day’s activities include a range of dramatic play, creative art, scientific exploration, storytelling and literature, and outdoor play. Students engage in a mix of smalland large-group activities. Each week, children spend dedicated time with the school’s music specialist. Pre-K classes also include a focus on math and science in addition to daily practice of Handwriting Without Tears. Beyond the independent classes for two-, three-, and four-year olds, NCNS offers enrichment programs. Students are invited to extend the day with Lunch Bunch classes ranging from yoga to Spanish to cooking. Along with their caregivers, children ages 18 to 23 months experience their first taste of preschool in the popular Parent & Tot program. In addition to a commitment to excellent education, Northbrook Community Nursery School is known for its inclusive atmosphere and deep local ties. The school hosts several popular family events each year, bringing parents and children together. The return to downtown Northbrook will grant families easy access to The Village Green as well as many local events in which the school participates, including Northbrook Farmers Market, Fourth of July Parade, and Northbrook Days. “Northbrook Community Nursery School is a special place. Our students learn from an early age the importance of being a part of a community, participating in local events and service,” Board President Kelly Parikh said. “Many of our parents attended the school, and are now enrolling their own children here.
