The "Crewe" began life

The "Crewe" began life as an eleventh-century abbot's guest house. Blessed with some of the most gorgeous features any building could have, our favourite things about our northern contingent are its flagstone floors, never-ending fireplaces and the one-and-only vaulted “Crypt Bar.” Right in the heart of the North Pennine moors, “The Crewe” is all about the outdoors that compliment it and business comes from walking, shooting, cycling and a niche of folks who quite like wearing woolly socks in front of roaring fires. The Crewe also boasts a brand spanking new foodie haven, "The Gatehouse" which opened in May 2017, home to Chef Simon Hicks' skillful and honest fare. Patchwork feasts vibrant with colour and beautiful, seasonal ingredients from the bottom of the garden and roasts slow-cooked in the gentle glow of our medieval fireplace. Demos and guest chef events regularly take place in the open country kitchen, to the delight (and appetites) of guests.
