SELWYN TIMES Latest Christchurch news at www. .kiwi Tuesday May 16 2017 15 News Can collection for needy • By Georgia O’Connor-Harding IF YOU live in Lincoln, you may get a knock on your door at the end of the month by a group of students planning to collect food cans to donate to the Salvation Army. Lincoln University students Holly Smith, 19, Jen Sinclair, 18, Ally Burns, 19, James Beattie, 20, and Sam Eddington, 19, will undertake a “can drive” around the township. West Belt St, Edward St and subdivisions Barton Fields and Te Whariki will be visited. The project is part of the Future Leaders Scholarship programme which requires students in small groups to come up with an idea to make a positive difference in the community. Miss Smith said the aim of the project is to bridge the gap between the university and community. “We just want to have the community involved. Our mission for this project is to improve the lives of others that are less fortunate than ourselves,” she said. The “can-do” group has GOOD CAUSE: A group of Lincoln University students will undertake a can drive around the area to collect for the Salvation Army.
