Exciting designs submitted for playhouse THREE EXCITING designs have been revealed by the successful entrants in this year’s playhouse challenge, a special feature of the 2017 Star Home & Leisure Show. Fusion Homes with Scratch Architecture, Irving Builders with PXA Architects and Pound Road Trading will each build a specially-designed playhouse to be auctioned at the show on Saturday, July 1. The auction will raise money for local charities Birthright Canterbury and Tenants Protection Association Christchurch. TPA manager Di Harwood said Birthright Canterbury and TPA are grateful to the three building companies and see the playhouse challenge as a perfect fit for the charities. “While TPA’s main focus is on supporting people with housing issues, keeping a consistent roof over people’s heads is also very much a part of the work Birthright Canterbury does in strengthening single parent families.” Star Media is the major sponsor of the playhouse challenge, which is also being supported by Priority Communications, Wyma Engineering, Resene, Robertson Creative, and Dave Richards Photography. “These aren’t regular children’s playhouses,” Star Media general manager Steve McCaughan said. “They will be judged on their architectural design and construction, as well as how much fun they are for kids.” “We are delighted that the playhouse challenge will be part of this year’s Star Home & Leisure Show and are hoping there will be plenty of interest from buyers. We are big supporters of Birthright Canterbury and TPA, who have been looking after Canterbury people for many years.” Playhouse challenge judges will include Birthright Canterbury chair Jane Lancaster, TPA board member Robin Tinga, architect John McGrail from Dalman Architects and early childhood educator Blanche Head. The playhouse challenge was inspired by Australia’s popular cubby house challenge, which this year raised well over $100,000 for the charity Kids Under Cover. •To stay up-to-date on the Canterbury playhouses, like the ‘2017 playhouse challenge’ page on Facebook or follow ‘playhouse challenge’ on Instagram.
