Lincoln reclaimed the Connetics Shield after defeating St Thomas of Canterbury College 3-1 at Christchurch Football Centre last week. Goals from Dylan Emile, Mason Stearn and Caleb Williams were enough to overcome St Thomas who had held the shield for four weeks after defeating Middleton Grange last month. Lincoln held the shield for the majority of last season before being defeated by Middleton Grange in the final round-robin match. Lincoln had a chance to reclaim the shield in the opening round of this season but were held to a one all draw. The Connetics Shield is the Canterbury secondary school first XI equivalent of the Ranfurly Shield. Defending champions Lincoln are currently second in the Connetics Schools Premier first XI competition with a record of five wins, two draws and one loss. Tomorrow’s opposition, Burnside, are currently fifth. A win will also cement a spot at the national secondary schools tournament in Napier at the beginning of September. The top four teams from Canterbury at the end of this month will qualify for the top 32 at the tournament. SPORTS Perfect run continues for defending SPORTS champions LINCOLN continued their perfect run in the Selwyn Netball Centre premier competition with an 81-19 demolition of bottom of the table Rolleston. The win was the defending champion’s eighth straight to start the season. They won all five games in the opening round robin this year and have now begun the second round robin with three straight wins. They will put their unbeaten record on the line against third placed Greenpark on Saturday. The two teams played out a tight encounter last month which Lincoln won 57-51.
