The new Iveco vehicle replaces the existing model which is set up as the primary appliance to respond to motor vehicle crashes and rescues. The new branding for the appliance named LINC417 will reflect the significant change to fire and emergency management throughout the country. Fire and Emergency New Zealand, an amalgamation of the New Zealand Fire Service, the National Rural Fire Authority, 12 enlarged rural fire districts and 26 territorial authority rural fire authorities became an amalgamated organisation at the start of July. Lincoln’s chief fire officer Jeremy Greenwood said the new appliance continues a long tradition of Lincoln firefighters having modern and effective equipment to protect the local community. “It’s always a special occasion to get a new appliance. The new appliance was delivered to the station in early July by Canterbury area commander Dave Berry who said he was delighted the first appliance with the new branding was supplied to a local brigade. “Lincoln is one of the busiest volunteer fire brigades in Canterbury and the new appliance will be well utilised in this fast growing part of the region,” he said. Mr Berry said it can attend a variety of incidents. He said it will respond to vehicle crashes and therefore carries significant specialist equipment as well as medical supplies. The appliance also contains a large assortment of firefighting equipment and carries up to 1300-litres of water. Existing Lincoln appliances and support vehicles will be re-branded over upcoming months.
