Cashing in on the comedy show<br />

COMMUNITY groups are<br />
laughing all of the way to the<br />
bank thanks to the Live in<br />
Lincoln Comedy Night.<br />
Some of New Zealand’s top<br />
comedians will be travelling to<br />
the township to take the stage<br />
for an evening of comedy at the<br />
Lincoln Event Centre.<br />
Comedians Ben Hurley, Paul<br />
Ego, Michele A’Court, Jeremy<br />
Elwood and Gish will star in the<br />
show.<br />
The organisers behind the<br />
show are giving a selection of<br />
<strong>Selwyn</strong> high schools, primary<br />
schools and community groups<br />
the opportunity to fundraise for<br />
their organisations.<br />
Organiser and Lincoln<br />
resident David Parlane said<br />
for every ticket sold by the<br />
community group, organisers<br />
are donating $5 back to it.<br />
“If someone sells 100 tickets,<br />
they make $500 . . . it is just<br />
another way to give back to the<br />
community,” he said.<br />
Mr Parlane said tickets for the<br />
comedy show are “ripping out<br />
the door” at the moment.<br />
The event was first launched<br />
last year with nearly 1000 people<br />
attending the night featuring<br />

Mr Parlane, who organised<br />

the rock concert but it will be a<br />
higher donation per ticket.<br />

in Lincoln at 6pm for a 7pm<br />

Bid to get<br />
Glentunnel<br />
cycleway<br />

A PETITION signed by 30<br />
residents has been put forward<br />
in a bid to have a cycleway<br />
constructed in the Glentunnel<br />
area.<br />
A loop cycleway starting and<br />
finishing in Glentunnel and<br />
covering Glenroy, Hororata and<br />
Coalgate was presented to the<br />
Malvern Community Board last<br />
week.<br />
It was presented by board<br />
member Karen Meares.<br />
Board chairwoman Jenny<br />
Gallagher said while she can see<br />
a lot of benefits for the cycleway,<br />
there is a lot of work yet to go into<br />
the planning of the project.<br />
Darfield resident Ross Fowler,<br />
who cycles in the area, said it<br />
would make the roads safer for<br />
cyclists.<br />
“Traffic and tourists are not so<br />
good on overtaking cyclists<br />
. . . there hasn’t really been an<br />
accident but I am sure there will<br />
be one day,” he said.<br />
His wife, Maria agreed and said<br />
a lot of people are scared of traffic.<br />
She said it was a great idea for<br />
encouraging people to get out on<br />
their cycles.<br />
“Now I can hear!<br />
It’s exciting.<br />
Really exciting.”<br />
