The team will travel to Auckland in October to take part in the novice section. The school has put forward a team of 13 pupils coached by teachers Stephanie Birkett and Nicole Ley. The team has been training twice a week under the watchful eye of their coaches since term one. Principal Lynda Taylor said for many of the pupils this has added to their already busy schedules at the school but they are committed and dedicated SCHOOLS SCHOOLS to improving their overall performance. The team are undertaking a number of fundraising projects to help pay for the trip. There are weekly sausage sizzles at school and catering for SPORTS FRESH TALENT: Leeston Consolidated School has a team of 13 pupils travelling to Auckland to take part in the national Jump Jam competition. ​ the Leeston Bowling Club next month for a day. West Melton School, Rolleston School and Prebbleton School will take part in Rockshop Bandquest, a nationwide music contest for intermediate and primary pupils. The regional contest involving schools across Canterbury is to start today and run to Thursday. West Melton has already performed a pre-concert for its school in preparation. The school was given a preview from its band performing Ed Sheeran hits Castle on the Hill and How Would You Feel. Rockshop Bandquest director Glenn Common said often the competition is the band’s first experience on a fully set-up stage with a light-show and professionally mixed sound. “They’re performing to their peers and families, which puts them under a little bit of pressure, but in a supportive environment,” he said. The Canterbury section of Rockshop Bandquest will be held from today through to Thursday, 7pm, at various locations. Tickets cost $10.
