The loss in the opening round of the South Island under-18 competition was a reminder to his team that they have to get out of the country mind set. “Close enough is no longer good enough,” he said. “Both high schools [Lincoln and Rangiora Highs] had really good UC Championship campaigns. “Probably the best they have had in a long time.” He said the opposition only won a few more key moments in the game and they have taken a lot of positives out of it. Now the Country under-18 team turn their attention to Tasman on Saturday before a bye. They then head to the knockout stages of the competition which runs from October 6-8.
