About Te Whāriki

About Te Whāriki Through years of research and planning, Ngāi Tahu Property and Lincoln University have developed this land to honour its rich history and create an inheritance for future generations. The re-establishment of healthy local waterways and native planting enhances indigenous biodiversity and makes for some stunning views. Te Whāriki refers to the ‘floor mat’ or lake bed of Te Waihora (Lake Ellesmere) – home to the rich wetland and lake community. This symbolises a place for all to gather and meet. It is therefore fitting that the Te Whāriki development seeks to build a community that weaves together the current township, Lincoln University and future residents.
