SELWYN TIMES Latest Christchurch news at Tuesday October 3 2017 5 motorway Local News Now Fire rages, homes at risk New Zealand Transport Agency principal project manager Geoff Griffiths said the new roads give access to homes and businesses. He said Manion Rd allows the CSM2 team to carry on with work on the four-lane motorway from Weedons Rd to Curraghs Rd. The Main South Bridge, north of Rolleston, is 80 per cent complete and is planned to take traffic up and over the motorway. Work on the Weedons interchange and Main South Rd is also progressing. Motorists are able to travel up to 110km/h on some of the country’s expressways, including Tauranga’s eastern link. The southern section of the Christchurch motorway would be considered for this in the future. Mr Griffiths said the 110km/h limit can only be applied to roads that have been built to a standard where an increase in the speed limit is both safe and appropriate. A number of factors need CONSTRUCTION: A full interchange is being built at Weedons Rd as part of the Christchurch Southern Motorway Stage 2 project. to be considered including whether it is a mediandivided road with at least two lanes in each direction, if it has any direct access to properties and has a low crash risk. Mr Griffiths said once the project is completed and deemed suitable, NZTA will go out for consultation on the speed limit change. •HAVE YOUR SAY: What do you think of the progress made on stage two of the Christchurch Southern Motorway?
