Architect
My stepsister Helen designs buildings. She creates high-up homes, orderly offices, and
surprisingly small-sized shops. She needs to know the measurements of every room, and
how heavy each wall has to be so it doesn’t fall down.
Film Director
My cousin Mervin makes the magnificent movies you see on the huge screens in
the theater. He makes storyboards that explain the images and scenes he is filming.
He de cides on the cast, tells the actors what to do, controls the camera angles,
and edits the film.
Carer
My brother Max cares for elderly people. He makes sure that they are feeling well and
looks after them if something hurts. But he also plays chess with them, takes them out to
play bingo, helps them eat their meals, and talks about the old days. He likes learning
about their lives.
Archaeologist
Uncle Mel is an archaeologist. He discovers old cups, bronze coins, and even whole
buildings by digging in the ground. In Egypt he uncovered a mummy. In England he
found a pile of dinosaur bones. In Peru he stumbled across an Inca mask. He puts the
pieces together to build up pictures of the past for us.
Tattoo Artist
My sister Tallulah is a tattoo artist. With a teeny-tiny needle, she draws pretty patterns,
frightening faces, and animated animals on all parts of people’s bodies—from enormous
backs to tiny toes. Her shop is full of pictures.
Mechanical Engineer
Grandma Rebecca designs robots. Her talents lie in working with the smallest bits and
pieces and putting them together. She creates high-tech machines to do what humans
can’t, or what we might need help with. She works in a lab and tests the models to
check they are safe.
