The most inland linksstyle
golf course in nz
Situated on the shores of Lake Dunstan,
the Cromwell Golf Course is one of the
best in New Zealand, and one of the most
scenic. Sculptured among sand dunes,
marram grass and mature trees, the arid
Central Otago landscape is transformed
by state of the art irrigation into firm
undulating fairways, and the sand-based
greens provide great putting surfaces.
Greg Turner, former European Tour
Golf Professional and course designer
says “The Cromwell Golf Course sits
comfortably on land similar to that of
the Melbourne sand-belt with expansive
rolling dunes. With 5 different teeing
options the course varies in length from
4500m to 6500m, so it is playable and
a great test from the beginner through
to Professionals”.
The Cromwell Golf Club hosts the
Central Gold Motel
Asure Central Gold Motel is ideally
located in Cromwell and just 100metres
There’s still time to enter the iconic
Nevis Valley Gutbuster, held on Saturday,
November 25.
The remote back country of Central
Otago has an irresistible charm that
draws people in. Every November
hundreds of keen mountain-bikers
line up at New Zealand’s most inland
township, Garston, for a race like no
other.
Over twenty river crossings, souldestroying
climbs, big descents and
weather conditions that would test
the hardiest, all feature in this 75km
endurance challenge.
New teams options have opened the
event up…less excuses now not to give
it a crack, organiser Terry Davis says.
the Lake Dunstan Cycle Challenge on
Saturday, January 6.
All three attract serious competitors
from throughout the South Island,
including some talented teens with big
futures in multisport.
The road cycle race circumnavigates
Lake Dunstan over 96km of flattish
tarseal and its popularity is growing.
Entries for all events are open online at
Cromwell.org.nz, he said.
Under shady trees at the Cromwell
Race Course, the Festive Fete’s 120 stalls
provide great Christmas shopping, wine
and food. Organiser Anthea Lawrence
says The Golightlies and Cemetery Road
will play this year at the November 26
event.
On Sunday, December 3, Cromwellians
don fancy hats and finery for Christmas
at the Races. Central Otago’s biggest
