Art-Dog Stories with Eira
My name is Eira. In the beginning I was called Tibor and
then Ira, but people kept asking my moms why I was
named “anger”, because that’s what that word means in
Latin and here in Austria lots of people know Latin, so
my moms changed my name to Eira which means “river”.
I’m a mixed “bag”, that’s why I’m so smart. My dog mom is
a standard poodle, she’s white; my dog dad is a Kerry Blue
Terrier and he’s blue-black. I’m black but soon I’ll turn
blue, like my dad.
I wrote these stories with my painter mom.
My mom says I’m a dog but also an artist, so these stories
are about my working life as an artist dog.
As a puppy I practiced
my colors. That was very hard.
I had to sit still and concentrate.
It was lots more fun to race around inside
and run circles in the room.
Both of my moms are
artists, but I spend
almost all my time
with my painter
mom.
I have my own table in the studio.
I get to sit on my table.
Beard paintings are the most fun!
I also make sculpture. I learned that from
my other mom. She loves cats, especially
my sister-cat Stella.
Sometimes we all make big art together –
me, my moms, and our artist friends.
I spend lots of time with my
moms in the studio. I like
to watch them work, but
sometimes I fall asleep.
Sometimes my sister
comes to watch too.
She’s much smaller
and lives next door.
At the end of the day I’m very tired.
It’s hard work being an artist dog.
My moms and I go look at many exhibits.
It’s good to look at lots of art but
often I don’t understand it.
My mom said I can’t forget the important book details,
otherwise it’s not a real book and part of that is
saying thank you. My thank yous are loud WOOFS,
so it will get real loud!
WOOF WOOF WOOF to my second mom, that
she let me stay, I know I was real wild in the
beginning; WOOF to my grandma Maria R. for
naming me Tibor and letting me go live with an
artist family; WOOF to my grandma Maggi Z.
for letting me cuddle with her ...
... WOOF to my sister-cat Stella for still playing
with me; WOOF to Leo S. and Bettina F. for not
kicking us out of school; WOOF to Karin I. for
teaching us so many new things; WOOF WOOF
to Petra K. and Ferdinand R. for letting me work
with them. My mom Heidi Zednik helped me
write and draw this book. This book is our
theoretical work, which is part of our training
as a Human/Dog-Therapy Team for
Humanis et Canis.
