There was an occasion where high street fashion brand Fendi had a reopening ceremony for their Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza store. Our artistes, Desmond Tan and Rebecca Lim graced the event together and as always, I was just shooting some pictures to hand over to their managers. Working with Desmond on multiple occasions before this, he had requested that I send over the photos that I took to him directly after I edited. Some of the shots were a few of my better works and I edited them with much care because he had specially requested for it. When I sent over the photos, he complimented them, and even told me that I should consider becoming a photographer because he mentioned I was “talented”. Truthfully, never will I ever imagine being complimented for my craft, and by a celebrity no less was truly an honor. I mentioned that if he ever needed photos to put up on social media I would be willing to help him with it, and after telling me he will keep this in mind, he proceeded to posting the photos I sent on his Facebook page. It was honor at the very best and till now it really is a challenge to express how thankful I am for this validation, especially for an amateur like myself. And finally, trying has given me a piece of home in TCA. Ashley and Jay, and it goes beyond simply having lunch together everyday. They were easy-going people, and they made it easy to settle in into the team. I got comfortable being around them, and even on gloomy days when we were all too tired to do any work, they will always be around to give an extra boost of energy, and for that, I am ever grateful that they make mundane work seem a little brighter. I found home in them, and with them, I found home in TCA. Through this internship, I learnt that there are no fixed formulas to how things work. Some days, a proposed solution to an issue would work, on some days it will not due to unforeseen circumstances. This is especially so when we work with new people all the time, and a solution acceptable by a client may not even be considered by the other. But that is what makes this job so interesting, it is that we always have to be creative in coming up with various solutions to solve problems, and it makes working in Commercial Engagement a little more exciting. I once wrote that I cannot wait for more things to be thankful following the second half of my internship, and I am not disappointed. As mentioned previously, I am someone who takes time warming up to others, and this was no exception towards my colleagues. I remembered how timid I was when I first asked Jenn if she wanted to join me for lunch, how it was so awkward we barely talked about anything and sat quietly finishing our food. But as always, as time goes by, we warmed up a lot to each other, and considering how Jenn also admitted she takes time to warm up to others, it was very comforting to know that you have someone to rely on in an environment filled with strangers. We knew as the “newcomers”, we had the responsibility of approaching the rest of our colleagues first. As we tried to warm up to other people, I realized there many people who were very ready to help us make TCA feel like home. I have gotten particularly close to two other colleagues, 26
