LGBT ALLIANCE BOOKLET v3

Welcome to the

Welcome to the first-ever Wolverhampton LGBT History Month Magazine, brought to you by Wolverhampton LGBT+ Alliance. This magazine gives you an overview of all the excellent and exciting events that are being organised to celebrate this year’s LGBT History Month. LGBT History Month is an opportunity for all of us to celebrate the LGBT+ community and recognise the achievements of people who identify as lesbian, gay, bi or trans. In celebrating their achievements, we also combat narratives that seek to minimise the contributions of LGBT+ people to society and provide role models that reassure people who are struggling with their sexual orientation or gender identity, that there’s nothing they can’t achieve. LGBT History Month is also an opportunity to explore the unique challenges that we still face, highlighting what still needs to be done to achieve LGBT Equality. This magazine would not have been possible without the support of Wolverhampton Homes and the University of Wolverhampton, who were behind the production, design and printing of the magazine. Thank you also to all the organisations that have arranged events. We hope that their commitment to LGBT+ equality will serve as inspiration and encourage even more organisations to participate in future years. This magazine is just the latest project of Wolverhampton LGBT+ Alliance. Established in May 2017, the Alliance brings together organisations, businesses and community groups from across the city. As one united network, we aim to raise the profile of the LGBT+ community and to make Wolverhampton a better place to live, work and visit for everyone. We meet every couple of months, where we discuss our plans for the year ahead… • Raising awareness • Coordinated communicated and marketing • Sharing ideas • Celebrating key dates, like Wolves Pride • Networking events • Combating hate crime and suicide • Training • And more… Do you represent an organisation, business or community group? Are you committed to equality for the LGBT+ community? If so, why not join us?
