Little River Rail Trail The Little River Rail Trail is grade 1. • Christchurch to Prebbleton – 4km (50mins); starts at Shands Road carpark – 400 metres south of Halswell Junction Road intersection. • Prebbleton to Lincoln – 7.7km (1hr 20mins); starts on Springs Road (shared cycleway) or off-road at Birches Trices roads. • Lincoln to Ahuriri Reserve – 10km (2hrs); starts at James St/East Belt/Edwards St intersection. • Ahuriri Reserve to Motukarara – 4km (50mins); starts on Neills Road. • Motukarara to Birdling’s Flat – 13km (2hrs 40mins); starts at Park Road, Motukarara. • Birdling’s Flat to Little River – 7km; (1hr 20mins); starts on Poranui Beach Road. Springfield to Arthur’s Pass • Korowai Torlesse Tussocklands Park: McHugh’s Forest CYCLE TRAILS • Starvation Gully to Trig M – 3.2km, (1hr 30mins), grade 3; uphill. • Trig M to Coach Stream – 5.5km (1hr 30mins), grade 3. • Hogs Back Mountain Bike Track – 15.6km, grade 3; starts at Castle Hill Village, Thomas Bush/St Andrews Lodge road or Cheeseman Skifield road off SH73. • Craigieburn Forest Park: • Lyndon Saddle – 3.5hrs return; starts at picnic area. • Dracophyllum Flat Track – 1.8 km (1hr), grade 3; starts at picnic area. • Broken River Skifield road – 6km, (1.5-2 hrs), grade 3; starts at picnic area. • Broken River Skifield to Camp Saddle – 2.5km, (2hrs), grade 3; starts at picnic area. • Craigieburn Valley & Lyndon Saddle Loop – 17km (2 3hrs), intermediate to advanced; starts at Broken River carpark. • Avoca Homestead Hut – 25km (2-4hrs), grade 2; starts at Craigieburn Road near Cass. Behind hut are several other tracks suitable for day trips. • Mt White Road – 25km, (2hrs), grade 1; starts Mt White Road/SH73 turn-off. • Poulter Valley – 27km, (3hrs 20mins), grade 3 to park boundary/grade 2 beyond; starts Poulter River, 20kms along Mt White Road from SH73 turn-off. Selwyn’s popular vineyards and winery experiences include: • Braided River, a boutique winery based at West Melton that specialises in limited production of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Riesling for which their 2014 vintage is currently available. • Langdale Vineyard Restaurant, close to West Melton is a restaurant and an ideal venue for weddings, special occasions and lunch, or a wine tasting experience from their comprehensive local wine list, in a glorious sheltered garden setting (bookings essential). • Lone Goat is a small vineyard where Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as a selection of sweet wines, are produced.
