On March 4th, 2017, Habitat for Humanity of
Weber and Davis Counties partnered with the
Ogden Mustangs, a local hockey team, to have a
night for fundraising at one of their home
games.
We had prizes donated by local business that
were auctioned off. In the middle of the game,
we had a speed round where a bucket was
passed for individuals to donate whatever was
in their pocket. It was such a good turnout that
we wanted to do this event in future years.
During the month of April, our affiliate had an
indoor Garage Sale at our warehouse. We had
to empty out the building since it was going to
be torn down by Ogden City. We appreciate the
By July 2016, two families were selected by
included the Diaz Family, a single mother
dogs and family members. By luck and
fortune, these two families ended up
Now that he is climbing in age, a lot of his
includes wood-working,
making leather goods, and
disabilities are becoming more of a problem.
He has had to make a tough decision to try
creating handmade knives.
He goes inside his mother’s
and change careers into a less strenuous job.
place to use the bathroom
and sleep in a temporary
He decided to return back to college to obtain
a degree for a less physically-demanding
bedroom in the basement. It
is a small house with lots of
career field. He set up his VA benefits and
enrolled in the Electrical Engineering program
stuff in it; he is not usually
able to cook in the house.
at Weber State University. He is currently a full-
time student at Weber State University. He is
One of the greatest qualities
dedicated to his studies despite his hardships
financially and physically.
about Travis is his continual
commitment to the people
He would love to get a place of his own.
around him. He is constantly
helping others and was very
However, with limited income and ADA
requirements, it makes it difficult to find a low-
younger and used to work on Habitat for
this information until after he was selected
as one of our partner families. He did not
want any special treatment because he had
decision.
receiving this house from Habitat for
helped in the past. This was a respectable
amount of people. His mother is having to
retire this year due to health issues and she
will end up staying with him. His father is
currently battling Alzheimer's. If there is
anything that might happen with his
father’s situation, he would have to take
care of him also.
In addition to his mother and father, Travis'
son may also be living with him. His son
would be able to help take care of the
household and Travis.
For Travis, personally, it means the chance
to become self-sufficient again and an
opportunity to flourish. It gets really hard
sometimes to feel like you have worth in life
if you cannot even take care of yourself. For
him, this house represents independence
and self-respect, and the ability to start
He would like to thank Habitat for
