HOMECOMING HIGHLIGHTS JAYVEE YEAR A fte r school began in the fall, a group of enthusiastic sophomore and junior girls spent their afternoons practicing cheers with the varsity cheering squad in preparation for the coming jayvee cheerleader tryouts. From the group, eleven girls were chosen to boost the spirit of the Springer teams. Janet Davidson, who was elected by the girls, became head jayvee cheerleader. In addition to cheering at all jayvee games and rooting in the. stands at all varsity games, the girls had regular practice sessions. The girls held a joint bake sale with the Hi-Y to raise money fo r paper and paint used in making signs at these sessions. Preparations for basketball season began early when the girls decided to design a new uniform. Black culottes, vests with a gold H.S. monogram, and white blouses were chosen. During the busy schedule of basketball season, the jayvee cheerleaders observed the varsity cheerleaders at the pep rallies to learn the latest in cheering techniques.
