Barbara Cabell The monthly business meetings and programs o f the twenty-nine member Spanish Club were conducted solely in Spanish this year. W ith the arrival o f the Christmas season, the program included a Spanish party, complete with a pinata and carols. Most pro^ grams, however, consisted mainly of the playing o f records, such as a recording o f "La Am ada Inm ovil," a Spanish poem, and the showing o f films depicting everyday life in Spanish-speaking countries. A . program of particular notice featured a talk by Nestor Sosa-Ferro from Uruguay, a foreign exchange student to John Marshall. A t a Spanish Club meeting, Martha Matheny attentively listens as A. Richard Bolts Harvey Grubbs strives for precision in balancing his Harvard equal arm scale. Under the leadership of M r. John Delk and M r. Samuel Ranson, the Science C lub was successful in providing an outlet fo r those students displaying a definite interest in the fields o f science. The use of the lab in performing experiments and in working on individual projects proved useful in increasing their knowledge in the fields o f chemistry and physics. It was hoped th a t group participation and discussions under the supervision of a qualified instructor as well as individual talks on particular fields of technology would aid in the preparation of students fo r college level studies. Many of the club's members who desired careers in fields o f scientific research were inspired to enter the Festival of Arts and Technology held at Varina High School and to avail themselves o f projects under the Virginia Senior A cade rr■/ o f Science Foundation.
