Optimism builds for the Nigerian hotel industry in 2018
Stories by OBINNA
There is optimism
for the
Nigerian hotel
industry at the
start of 2018,
after more than three
years of depressed performance,
according to
research undertaken by
Lagos-based W Hospitality
Group.
W Hospitality Group
interviewed hotel general
managers working across
Nigeria, and found that
In a bid to offer its teeming
guests a memorable
experience amid warmth
this love season, Marriott
International, a leading global
hotel chain, has unveiled
thrilling romantic packages
across its hotels in Nigeria,
which are; Sheraton Lagos
Hotel, Sheraton Abuja Hotel,
Four Points by Sheraton Lagos
and Le Meridien Ogeyi
Place, Port Harcourt.
Barry Curran, area general
manager of Marriott hotels
in Nigeria, assured that the
hotels are set to deliver an inspiring
haven of unique experiences
to esteemed customers
on Valentine’s Day. “Our
teams have planned alluring
and heartwarming activities
lined up to create unforgettable
moments. At Sheraton
Lagos Hotel our themed “Be
my Valentine” day event will
offer magical moments with
club room’s packages starting
no fewer than 83 percent
are optimistic about their
hotel’s performance in
2018, a strong bounceback
from 2017, due to
renewed confidence in
the Nigerian business
environment. Whilst the
survey revealed that the
business environment is
still seen as a major challenge
to deal with, expectations
are high.
According to Trevor
Ward, managing director,
W Hospitality Group,
“The feedback from hotel
managers is encouraging.
The hospitality industry is
a good indication of the
performance of the economy
as a whole. Stronger
demand for hotel services
is a good marker of increased
investment and
of economic growth. The
problems we experienced
of security issues, the oil
price crash, and the recent
recession are, we
hope, behind us”.
A negative finding from
the survey is that fully
50 percent of hotel executives
complain about
multiple taxes and other
Marriott International woos with exciting
Valentine offers at its Nigerian hotels
from as low as N75,000; Room
and Dining bookers will win
prizes to make the season
more special”, Curran said.
Also at Shertaon Lagos
Hotel, a photo booth will be
set up beside the Pumpkin
Leaf Restaurant where all
lovers can get their pictures
taken with a hotel photographer
to capture the memories
of the day while diners will
be welcomed with a special
Valentine’s Day cocktail and
treated to a special Valentine’s
Day dinner curated for that
evening. As well, cabanas will
be available at special rates to
diners who want a bit of privacy
with a view of the pool.
Towing the lines of its
sister hotel, Four Points by
Sheraton Lagos will open reservations
for its deluxe room
package from February 12-18,
2018, which is designed to
encourage guests celebrate
their loved ones, renew vows
and reminisce on the past.
“This provides the perfect
venue and ambience for your
inspiring marriage proposals.
The package comes with room
and bathroom decorated with
rose petals, a bottle of Martini
Rose sparkling wine and red
velvet muffins alongside a 20
percent discount voucher for
two on any spa treatment and
buffet breakfast for two in the
Brazzarie Restaurant”, Curran
explained.
The area general manager
explained further saying,
“Authentic and innovative
cuisine with beautifully designed
Valentine’s Day menus
will feature and Couples are
invited to dine over an exceptional
buffet dinner, bottle of
alcoholic or non-alcoholic
sparkling wine and a heart
shaped cake on every table.
The hotel will equally offer
any couple that purchases
this season’s ticket 30 percent
discount on a massage session
at the hotel’s spa and a
chance to enjoy 30 percent
discount on their next Sunday
brunch table reservation.
To spice up the evening, a
lucky draw will grant winners
a get-way weekend stay for
two at Sheraton Lagos, Sheraton
Abuja or Le Meridien Port
Harcourt”.
Marriot is offering two
packages at its Le Meridien
levies charged by state
governments, on an industry
which is seen as
a cash cow to fill governments’
coffers. “This is
an increasing issue for
the hoteliers” says Ward.
“Hotels already incur high
operating costs, exacerbated
by the depreciation
of the Naira, and these ever-increasing
government
charges are an unfair and
threatening burden, especially
when we provide
so many job opportunities,
especially for young
people”.
Ogeyi Place in Port Harcourt.
The packages run
until February 18, 2018. The
first is ‘Valday’ room package,
which starts from as low
as N 65,000 inclusive of complimentary
breakfast buffet
for two people at the hotel’s
Ororo Restaurant while the
‘Valfull’ room package starts
from N 80,000 with complimentary
breakfast and dinner
for two.
“We will equally offer exciting
buffet packages for singles
and couples this season;
buffet offerings will include
sparkling wine and champagne
at fantastic prizes while
our valentine’s menu is a full
Nigerian and continental buffet
setup and a four-course ala
carte menu”.
At Sheraton Abuja Hotel,
the team is offering a collection
of elevated experiences.
“Visitors will be awestruck
on arrival by a journey
through a beautiful love tunnel
and a love photo booth
which comes with a professional
photographer providing
instant lifetime memories.
Also, an enriching buffet dinner
spread will be laid out
at our Papillion Restaurant,
Pool Bar and restaurants with
live cooking stations and a
complimentary glass of energizing
cocktail per person”,
Curran said.
