Stress also has a powerful effect on the mind. Stressful environments (such as giving a presentation or talk), trigger responses in the body commonly known as “Fight or Flight”. The body prepares to either face danger head on or run. When this happens the body tenses up, adrenaline is released and all non-essential functions, such as speaking, cognitive ability are starved of resources. What this means is that we lose track, become disorientated, our words dry up because our brain function ceases to work properly. 5 © GroupM University - 2018
