Candidasa and eastern Bali has the most natural beauty on Bali, combined with great beaches, interesting sights and plenty of history. Our Insiders Guide will help you with what you shouldn't miss.
OUR 4 HIDDEN GEMS
I've chosen some of our favourite hidden gems that are close to the villa or within easy driving distance - I hope you enjoy them too! GOA LAWAH Goa Lawah (the bat cave) is not quite a hidden gem (it's directly on the main road for one thing!), but it is often overlooked by tourists. However, it is one of Bali's most important temples and, as such, there are an enormous amount of spectacular ceremonies that take place there. MANGGIS MOTORBIKE RIDE If you're going to hire a bike on Bali, Candidasa is the place to do it. The traffic is quieter and the "hidden" scenery on the back roads and bike tracks is magnificent. We have a map that shows you our route through the beautiful Manggis hills but you can easily explore on your own. BUG-BUG FRESH MARKET South-east Asia has amazing fruit and vegetables - a lot of it is very exotic for Westerners. The market at Bug Bug, on the way to Amlapura, has a great selection. It's not touristy at all, only locals shop there. It's most interesting to arrive early in the morning, at set-up, and see what's on offer. TENGANAN AGA VILLAGE Although the Aga village at Tenganan is not a secret (and is in fact quite touristy), what is not as well known is that it is the only place on Bali (and one of only four in the world) where double ikat fabric is weaved. The basket weaving here is also the best quality on the island.
