The butchers made the complaint in a report issued in Benin, yesterday, at the end of National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the union. They stressed the need for the union to check the menace due to the fact that not everybody consumed the meat and that many could hardly differentiate between donkey meat from that of cow. According to the union’s report, those who engage in the sale of donkey meat, usually have the donkeys slaughtered in hiding and bring it out for sale to unsuspecting members of the public. The union, which expressed worry over killings by herdsmen, called for urgent measure to be taken to address the ugly trend. •We don't have anything to do with it — Operation Delta Safe By Jimitota Onoyume W ARRI—ONE person was reportedly killed yesterday in Ugborodo, Escravos, Warri South- West Local Government Area during a security operation. Community sources said security operatives stormed the area on Saturday, to flush out oil thieves and hoodlums suspected to be behind pipeline vandalism and related crimes in the area, adding that the operation began from Madangho, Adjudiagbo to Ogidigben and then to Ode Ugborodo. A source said: “It was a fierce operation by the security men. They came in and have been ransacking the communities for hoodlums and oil thieves.” A prominent Itsekiri lawyer in Warri, Mr. Edward Ekpoko, said he heard of the operation, but had very scanty information on it, assuring that he would speak after he had gathered enough information. Meanwhile, contacted, Commander, Operation Delta Safe, Rear Admiral Suleiman Apoche, said it was not their operation. “I have not ordered any operation in the area,” he added. THE National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, said it found leaves used to stimulate ovulation in women at an illegal maternity and baby factory in Nyanya, Abuja, and then promptly sealed the place. NAPTIP spokesman, Mr. Josiah Emerole, who disclosed this in Abuja yesterday, said that the acclaimed Chief Medical Director of the baby factory was arrested few weeks back by NAPTIP for allegedly swindling several women, who were in dire need of babies. He said that the sealing of the illegal medical outfit, Akuchi Herbal Concept, located on Old road, around Pure Water area, New Nyanyan, Abuja, was part of the ongoing investigation into the case. According to him, the case had already generated public concern among Nigerians especially relations of the victims. Recall that the operatives of NAPTIP last week arrested a 38-year-old herbalist, (names withheld) for allegedly deceiving women into thinking they are pregnant and thereafter giving other people’s babies to them having collected lots of money. The suspect, who is from Enugu State , was arrested after weeks of diligent surveillance by combined team of officers of the agency and those of the Department of State Services. The spokesman said the latest operation was coordinated by the Director, Investigation and Monitoring Department, Mr. Greg Esele on the directive of the Director-General, Ms Julie Okah-Donli. Cleric arrested for robbery in Ogun By Daud Olatunji A BEOKUTA—AN acclaimed Pastor and General Overseer of God’s Favour Ministry, Iba, in Lagos State, Pastor Daniel Onwugbufor, has been arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command for armed robbery. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement said “the pastor was arrested along with one Israel Animashaun recently through technical intelligence by men of FSARS led by Uba Adams. He said “Their arrest followed series of car snatching reports, which the Command has been trying to unravel and have been working on a clue to smash the syndicate. “Their efforts paid off when one of the snatched cars, a Lexus RX 330 jeep, was tracked down to the pastor at his Iba resident consequent upon which the pastor was arrested. “This arrest led to the apprehension of Animashaun, who is an active member of a three man gang of armed robbery syndicate specialized in snatching of exotic cars on gun point. “On interrogation, Animashaun confessed that he and two others snatched the Lexus jeep at gunpoint at Ajah in Lagos and took it to the pastor, who used to help them in selling such stolen items.” He stated further that the pastor only paid him N350,000 for the car after using it for two weeks before he sent it to his other accomplice. Commander, Senator John Shagaya, dies in auto crash Group, ECOMOG, Commander and former Senator representing Plateau South, General John Shagaya, is dead. Shagaya reportedly died following a motor accident that occurred while he was on his way to Langtang, Plateau State. He was recently appointed Chairman of National Institute for Policy and Strategy Studies, NIPSS, by President Muhammadu Buhari. Shagaya was a former Minister of Internal Affairs. He was born on September 2, 1942.
