The Elohìms' sons saw that Adàm's daughters were beautiful (good) and<br />

Meanwhile, we point out that the term tovòt ( ) is usually translated as<br />

“beautiful”, but it also means “capable, suitable” (the opposite is used, for<br />

example, in the common saying “good for nothing”, meaning incompetent,<br />

unfit). Well, these women clearly appeared “good”, that is “appropriate” to<br />

establish relationships, the setting of families: in other words suitable for<br />

practicing sexual intercourse and subsequent reproduction.<br />

Then the text continues by telling the anger and the sorrow of “god” who,<br />

seeing this barbarity, decides to erase humanity from the Earth's face.<br />

Here is the full passage from the Settled Bible:<br />

Therefore the Lord saw that men's wickedness was great on the Earth and that the aspirations<br />

of the thoughts of their hearts were constantly aimed at evil and the Lord repented of having<br />

created man on Earth, he complained in his heart and said: “I will destroy man whom I have<br />

created from the surface of the ground; man, along with animals, creeping things, and birds of<br />

the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them.”<br />

Reading this passage we can not help but ask ourselves some questions:<br />

Could this omniscient God not predict what would have happened?<br />

Did he not know that his creatures' behavior depended on the features that<br />

he himself had provided?<br />

What nonsense it is to furnish someone with the freedom to decide his<br />

fate, if he is then punished because his decisions do not correspond to the<br />
