This year’s Chorale

This year’s Chorale has certainly produced one of the best musical Christmas concerts in W-H’s history. Students have enjoyed a varied program of singing accompanied by several different instruments, thanks to our new musical teacher Mr. Fischer. Highlights of the Christmas concert included Sidney Duncan playing the flute with fifty singing Chorale members as well as Macada McMullen tap dancing to a Broadway medley, sung by the 8th grade chorus. The Chorale incorporates grades 10th through 12th and the 9th grade chorus too. This formidable group sang "December Child”, "Jazz Gloria” and many more songs. The Spring concert was another accomplishment of the Chorale, which sang "Hallelujah”, "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme,” and "What the World Needs Now is Love”. In addition to the Chorale, Mr. Fischer also ran the spring musical smash "Guys and Dolls”. Fie has, without a doubt, been an asset to the W-H school. The music department has been very successful this year because of Mr. Fischer’s leadership and the students’ involvement. Hopefully we can all look forward to an equally harmonic and rhythmic season next year. LEFT TO RIGHT, FRONT ROW, M. Samek, E. Conti, C. Warner, K. Conti. J. Yarusi, C. Stevenson, S. Sweetwood, A. k e r n e l This year’s band, under the direction of Mr. Sutor, is larger and more diverse than it has been in previous years. The musicians comprising the band are evenly distributed throughout the grade levels in the upper school. Instruments played by the band members range from trumpet and flute to timpani, sousaphone and orchestral bells. Because of its advancements in technique and ability the band could perform Chariots of Fire by Vangelis at the holiday concert. This spring the band performed an arrangement of Moussorgsky’s Pictures from an Exhibition and Alvamar Overture by James Barnes. The overture is the hardest and longest piece the band has ever played. As Mr. Sutor stated, "I am extremely impressed with this year’s band.” Some band members accompanied the Chorale in its performance and played at the graduation in June. LEFT TO RIGHT, FRONT ROW: M.
