Wednesday February 14 2018 Latest Christchurch news at www.star.kiwi BAY HARBOUR PAGE 15 Your Local Views A BRANCH OF Nuk shows his romantic side For Port Hills National list MP Nuk Korako, it is the little things that count when it comes to romance TODAY IS Valentine’s Day – a day of romance – and while it may be a little over commercialised, nonetheless it is a good excuse to spend special time with the one you love and cherish. For me especially it is 28 years since I met my wife, Chris, on the Grand Canal in Venice. I proposed and we married that same year at Rapaki. Over the last few weeks, I have taken advantage of the hot weather to be out and about experiencing some of the great SummerTimes festival which the city council facilitates. I have particularly enjoyed the Lyttelton Summerfest film evenings and am looking forward to walking the City2Surf on March 18 with my family and I hope to see you along the course. If you have yourself, or known someone who has participated in the Kathmandu Coast to Coast you will appreciate the time and effort that goes into training for this iconic event. I have done it twice and I can honestly say that it is gruelling, painful and worth every minute. Congratulations to everyone who crossed the finish line at New Brighton beach or participated at the weekend. We are fortunate to have so many great events and open spaces in our city and within the Port Hills. I think we have the best beaches, great parks, walkways ideal for humans and animals alike, cycleways, cafes, restaurants, shopping, weekly markets with local fresh produce, exercise facilities, and some beautiful gardens to enjoy. To add to that there are four sites identified for a new skate park in the Ferrymead and Sumner area and the city council is asking for your feedback. Also there are two developments that will add to new Lyttelton landmarks, one being Collett’s Corner, which is progressing thanks to Ohu Development which is working with the community to create a building that will be collectively owned by the community. And the Lyttelton Museum site on London St which is progressing through the concept design. Whatever you do this Valentine’s Day, if there’s one thing I’ve learnt over the last 28 years, it’s the little things, the thoughtful things that count the most. Enjoy your day.
