2017 Report - Salvation Army Silicon Valley

503,854 meals served. 64,514 volunteer hours. And over 120,000 people served. See how The Salvation Army Silicon Valley made an impact this year.

Who Are We? The Origin

Who Are We? The Origin – The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 in the east end of London by William and Catherine Booth. They sought to bring salvation to the poor, destitute, and hungry by meeting both their physical and spiritual needs. The Mission – The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. The Local Organization – established as one of the oldest charities in San Jose in 1884, now comprises five service facilities situated in Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Gilroy and two in downtown San Jose.

How Do We Lead? As Salvation Army Officers, we are committed to share the love of God by providing impactful services for those in need with the help of our faithful donors, dedicated staff, and countless volunteers. Though much has changed over the past decade in Silicon Valley, some things have remained the same. Individuals and families continue to struggle as the rising cost of housing means less dollars spent on food and necessities. The Salvation Army today remains as relevant as it did in 1884 when it first opened its doors here in Silicon Valley. It is our hope that, with your help, we can continue to keep up with the evergrowing demand to help those in need for many more years to come. Thank you for helping us do the most good by caring for those in our community. Blessings, Majors Roy & Paula Wild 1
